Recognize. Ask. Act. Respond.
What is Responsibility in fashion? And why does it matter?
Every year releases an insightful Transparency index report, where they measure the level of transparency shown by some of the world's biggest fashion brands. 👚
The 5 topical sections used in that report are also great starting points to help understand how and what responsibility in fashion looks like. Let's break it down with some 'food for thought'...⤵️
📃Policy and Commitments📃 - Does your favorite brand have a plan..a vision...a set of commitments to push for more socially responsible practices in their supply chain? Do their suppliers? Do they even ask?
⚖Governance⚖ - Does your favorite brand follow up with these commitments? Are they reflected in their own workforce? Are they encouraged to see similar fairness standards implemented for the workers in their supply chain?
🔎Traceability🔎 - Does your favorite brand know who their suppliers are and where their fabric comes from? Are they taking steps to find out? Are they questioning everything?
🔧Know, Show, Fix🔧 - No one is perfect. But knowing this fact, AND acting on it, is the perfect first step. Does your favorite brand uncover and, most importantly, disclose its shortcomings? Do they share the areas that need improvement, and do they follow through?
🔦Spotlight Issues🔦 - It's a journey, not a single jump. Supply chains are complex, and the issues that are being addressed are not easy to solve. Still, transparency is the first step. Accountability and Action follow soon thereafter. Does your favorite brand truly shine the light on the social and environmental issues in their supply chains?
🟢Let's encourage more brands to show an ability to Recognize, Ask, Act and Respond. Let's enable and reward more Responsibility in fashion 👍🌍
