The iPhone lock screen is turning into a real “action surface”. And yes, that matters for mobile access too.
Even when Wallet is not an option, you can still combine lock screen widgets/shortcuts with in-app NFC HCE to make door access a single, intentional flow:
tap ➡️ present ➡️ enter
Why this is a big deal for access control providers:
🔹 Less friction at the door = better real-world adoption.
🔹 Widgets can trigger different modes (office mode, arming/disarming the intrusion system, and more) without hunting through the app.
🔹 Security does not have to change just because the entry point is faster.
Apple already supports lock screen widgets, and iOS 18 is pushing more apps toward lock screen actions. If you are building wallet-free NFC mobile access, this is the usability upgrade your end users will actually feel.
