Kamille Kirschling is an installation artist whose work explores the materials of melancholy embedded within midwestern suburban houses, developments, and everyday spaces. Her practice examines the promises of economic progress and growth, aligning it with the shadows of neglect, loss, and the passage of time that linger behind facades of promise.
Through combining photography and sculpture, Kirschling deconstructs and abstracts elements of the domestic environment, capturing the subtle rhythms of presence and absence that define the very edge of how we perceive a space. Her work investigates how memories are shaped and reshaped through continual acts of re-remembering, revealing their latent potential to resurface unexpectedly through surroundings and environmental elements. Using installations that incorporate photographic elements inherent in the image-making process, questioning how technology influences our perceptions of reality and certainty.
