Перша ознака: звісно, це кількість IP-адрес, з яких атакують вашу інфраструктуру. DoS — одна IP-адреса, DDoS — сотні та навіть тисячі. 🌐
Друга ознака: масштаб навантаження: логічно витікає з попередньої ознаки. DoS-атака обмежена потужністю одного пристрою, DDoS здатна генерувати трафік у гігабітах на секунду й «покласти» навіть добре захищену інфраструктуру.
Третя ознака: складність блокування: DoS часто зупиняється банальним блокуванням однієї IP-адреси, DDoS вимагає фільтрації трафіку на рівні мережі та спеціалізованого захисту. 🔐
Отже, це не просто «різниця в одну літеру», а однакові за принципом, але різні за ресурсами атаки. І, відповідно, зупинити саме DDoS — найскладніше через розподіленість джерел.

Attacks on infrastructure require an immediate response. ⚡ But it will only be the right one when you understand what you are dealing with: DoS or DDoS.
You certainly know the definitions of DoS and DDoS (an attack from one source and from several sources simultaneously, respectively), so we will focus on how to understand what is happening in practice.
The first sign: of course, it is the number of IP addresses attacking your infrastructure. DoS means one IP address, DDoS means hundreds and even thousands. 🌐
The second sign: the scale of the load: it logically follows from the previous sign. A DoS attack is limited by the power of one device, while DDoS can generate traffic in gigabits per second and “take down” even well-protected infrastructure.
The third sign: blocking complexity: DoS can often be stopped by simply blocking one IP address, while DDoS requires traffic filtering at the network level and specialized protection. 🔐
So, this is not just “a one-letter difference,” but attacks that are similar in principle yet different in terms of resources. And, accordingly, stopping DDoS is the most difficult because of the distributed nature of its sources.
