Today we are visiting Ylva Mesonero, our Senior Product Manager. She explains: “When Corona first started I felt really sad as I didn't know when I would be able to see my family or extended family next. I started working from home, and it was pretty stressful with a 1 year old running around in the apartment. We weren't sure what to do, but after a couple of months me & my husband thought that we might be able to go to Denmark to stay with his parents. That way we could see them, they could finally meet their grand child again, and we could get some help with our daughter while home office. I was a bit nervous about if this would be OK or not, but to my relief no one thought it was a problem or a bad idea.

Everyone at work was super positive and we ended up spending over a month in Denmark all together! What I love most ended up being that I within 2 minutes could walk down with my coffee cup to the harbour, and go and cuddle my daughter when I wanted a break....

Ylva continues "The biggest challenge was that I started as a game producer during lock down, for a team I didn't know, working on a project that was already in production. Most of the people in the team I had never met before in real life. I was very anxious to get to know them, but also wasn't sure of how that would work out. In the end it actually went really well, and I now feel like an integrated part of my team. But it was definitely a couple of stressful months to begin with.

I do miss being able to have coffee with my colleagues, to bike to work and to decompress biking home after a stressful day. I also miss having beers on Fridays with actual people around me. But I am glad that nothing ever felt like an issue from the SOFTGAMES side of things. If I needed a screen, or some other device, no problem. If I needed to go somewhere else to work, no problem. If I wanted to work from the office, all good. Generally, I have a feeling of being supported, like my personal life is respected as well."

We are visiting Lennart Daldrup, one of our Game Producers!

🏡 He tells us: “The thing I love most about home office is not having to commute, making breakfast and dinner with my flatmates just so much more relaxed & trying out new, cheaper & healthy things for lunch is a game changer! Also, being able to spend more time with my girlfriend in-between tasks or when taking breaks is a huge plus and helps reduce day-to-day stress. The biggest challenge I faced & am still facing is separating work time from private time and resisting mixing the two💻.

Keeping a good work-life balance is hard (and key!), especially in times where the workstation is just a few meters away from the bed. I did have to upgrade my workstation a bit (got a new mechanical keyboard that makes typing a lot more enjoyable to me) and I invested in a proper office chair, not cheap but 100% worth it (my back is thanking me).

A great initiative that SOFTGAMES started for all teams is supporting virtual team lunches with a monthly Lieferando Pay allowance. Everyone can order exactly what they like with company credits and then hop on a meeting with the team while/after eating🍕. This is especially great with all the awesome take-out/food delivery here in Berlin!"

Today we are visiting Philipp Klein, our Junior Level Designer from the Solitaire Farm Team 🏡.

He says: “What I love most about home office is that when I finish I am already at home and able to enjoy the evening. I think the biggest challenge was and is to make sure I get enough exercise and movement during the day and find a good balance between work and short breaks. The fun thing is that my dog monitors my work during the day 🐶.

I started working for SOFTGAMES during the pandemic so I was onboarded partially in the office but mostly remote. It was challenging, but I think the constant contact with the team made it easy and made me feel not so alone despite being in home office all the time."

Thanks for sharing Philipp 😊

Many of us have been through challenging times while adapting to a completely different lifestyle. And for some, not much has changed at all. Let's hear it from the team. Please meet Alejandro Heredia, our Java Script Developer.

🔅 Ale tells us „The thing I love the most about homeoffice ist the view and that I can move around as I please, although the biggest challenge is to separate family from work. Since starting to work from home however, we got into gardening and healthier food. So we got more plants, we also got a lot more items for home like a barbecue grill, a balcony dining setup, a cave for the cat and what not. 🌿 I sometimes spend my coffee breaks with my wife but normally I have it at the balcony with the scenery of trees from Tierpark. ☕️ Although we had a few difficult things to conquer during this time, we have become more organized and closer as a family. The best thing SOFTGAMES did for the team was to give us all the conditions necessary to work and encourage healthy working habits. Also activities like the game nights and the food allowance is awesome.“ 🎲

Thanks for sharing Ale 👐🏼

Homeoffice from our Senior Game Producer Valentin Simion perspective🏡.

"What I love most about working from home is to be in a familiar place. I can simply get up & 10 seconds later have a refilled coffee & even better, I get to have lunch with my family. I win a lot of time by not commuting each day & if I have a bad hair day, I simply don't use the camera. 😬

But working from home with 2 small kids is incredibly hard. Especially when they know that you are in the next room & start hitting the door with their hands and feet so you open the door. My wife has been a trouper keeping the kids quiet. Since May, some of us have occasionally returned to the office & now my kids start crying whenever I leave home. My 4 year old even tried to bribe me with chocolate the other day.

I do miss the kitchen banter with colleagues & the idea exchanges around a big desk. However, the best thing the company did for us was to make sure that we have an office that can be used with well established rules but at the same time, the freedom to choose from where we want to work. This is strongly correlated with a feeling of trust from the stakeholders & with the feeling that you are recognised as a true professional that doesn't need to be constantly checked on or micro-managed."

Meet Prathyusha, our Junior Game Tester.

"I joined SOFTGAMES seven months ago as a Junior Game tester. I firmly believe that we have great potential as an instant games company offering the best games for Facebook. As a QA Manager in the games team I'm responsible for sustainability. I use my problem solving skills on a daily basis so that customers can entertain themselves with our games. The best part of my job is that I love interacting with our customers & provide fast solutions. My biggest professional achievement & challenge so far was to leave job in my homecountry to start a new life in Berlin and find a new work-life rhythm. Learning to be patient with myself helped a lot, but also the support and understanding from my team has been very valuable. When it comes to my personal achievement, roaming around the world is my biggest achievement ever. Everything an everyone around us can be an inspiration or a mentor. No matter what the circumstances, each situation can teach and uplift us. Therefore, we should be grateful and thankful about challenges. One of the requirements to live a happy & fulfilled life is to be satisfied with what we do."

In honour of International Women’s Day on 8th of March, we are introducing some of our extraordinary women working here at SOFTGAMES. Meet Mali, our Junior Level Designer.

„As part of the match-3-games team I create appealing content for existing and new projects. Building interesting, enjoyable and aesthetic levels, that satisfy the players and keep them going, as well as designing new blocker, booster and game mechanics to keep the games varying. What I love most about my job is that I design things, that bring people joy. I feel very fortunate to work in an environment, where I can be myself and live my creativity. Getting positive player feedback always feels like the greatest achievement to me and I draw my motivation and inspiration from working on something that makes people happy in a very serious world.”

In honor of International Women’s Day on 8th of March, we are introducing some of our extraordinary women working here at SOFTGAMES.

Meet Fiorella, one of our Graphic Designers: „I work within the CRM team & we are responsible for the company products. Not only do I create marketing assets for the games, but I'm also branding new games through artist collaborations. Additionally, we work on the company identity together with the People & Culture Team. A challenge is having to understand users & communicate a story about the game in each design. My biggest achievement was finding a job in Berlin which is far away from my home, Uruguay, a small country where we probably all know each other. In contrast, Berlin is a big & multicultural city with a high variety of opportunities. I draw my inspiration from my colleagues who are from a lot of different nations. Each conversation is an opportunity to learn about different cultures & points of view. The diversity helps us to improve ourselves and achieve our goals in the company. This made me feel that no matter where we work, we must always do our best, share our knowledge & thus build a more human world. Finally, being a woman empowers me. I think we have an amazing ability to share knowledge with men and teach them, even more so in Technology companies, where the lack of gender diversity is a well known problem.”
