Today we are visiting Ylva Mesonero, our Senior Product Manager. She explains: “When Corona first started I felt really sad as I didn't know when I would be able to see my family or extended family next. I started working from home, and it was pretty stressful with a 1 year old running around in the apartment. We weren't sure what to do, but after a couple of months me & my husband thought that we might be able to go to Denmark to stay with his parents. That way we could see them, they could finally meet their grand child again, and we could get some help with our daughter while home office. I was a bit nervous about if this would be OK or not, but to my relief no one thought it was a problem or a bad idea.
Everyone at work was super positive and we ended up spending over a month in Denmark all together! What I love most ended up being that I within 2 minutes could walk down with my coffee cup to the harbour, and go and cuddle my daughter when I wanted a break....
Ylva continues "The biggest challenge was that I started as a game producer during lock down, for a team I didn't know, working on a project that was already in production. Most of the people in the team I had never met before in real life. I was very anxious to get to know them, but also wasn't sure of how that would work out. In the end it actually went really well, and I now feel like an integrated part of my team. But it was definitely a couple of stressful months to begin with.
I do miss being able to have coffee with my colleagues, to bike to work and to decompress biking home after a stressful day. I also miss having beers on Fridays with actual people around me. But I am glad that nothing ever felt like an issue from the SOFTGAMES side of things. If I needed a screen, or some other device, no problem. If I needed to go somewhere else to work, no problem. If I wanted to work from the office, all good. Generally, I have a feeling of being supported, like my personal life is respected as well."
