AI can map an architecture, but it cannot reverse-engineer intent.

In Part 2 of our series on reviving legacy systems, our unit lead, Бруно Раљић, draws a hard line between what AI can reconstruct and what requires human context.

AI rebuilt our entire API and data model in two hours, but it couldn't explain orphaned collections or hardcoded constants based on a decade-old "gut feeling." AI is exceptional at mapping what a system does, but it takes a human in the loop to understand why.

Taking over an abandoned codebase usually means weeks of reverse-engineering just to figure out where to start.

Our unit lead, Бруно Раљић, recently challenged that standard, kicking off a series on exactly how we use AI to revive abandoned projects.

In Part 1, Bruno ran a blind test: human memory vs. an AI-assisted sweep. The AI mapped the entire system in one sitting, instantly flagging exposed secrets, deprecated APIs, and half-finished migrations.

The takeaway was clear: AI tells you exactly what is in the code, but it takes a human in the loop to decide what "done" actually means.
