A busy week of events, and one we always make time for: the traditional partner meeting of Konica Minolta Czech Republic & Slovakia.

We used it to present the new OptimiDoc Server — now with full support for Windows Protected Print and a long list of further improvements.

OptimiDoc will be at the Print IT Reseller Roadshow in Coventry on 10 September.

We're coming to talk about the problems on both sides of the deal.

What end customers are stuck with: print servers and drivers nobody wants to maintain, documents sitting uncollected in output trays, branch and hybrid users printing over VPN, and scanned paper that still gets filed into SharePoint or a DMS by hand.

PrintNightmare. Remember that?

A critical Windows vulnerability (2021) that let attackers take over entire systems through a kernel-mode print driver.

Microsoft's response: "Kernel-mode print drivers have to go."

Windows Protected Print Mode is their answer.

Print quotas were the single most requested thing on our list. Partners asked. Customers asked. In the new OptimiDoc Server, it's in.

Here's what we built.

The cost of every job is checked before it reaches the device, and reserved up front — so nobody slips past a limit by submitting five jobs at once. Hard quotas block once the budget is gone. Soft quotas don't: they strip colour or force duplex and let the work continue, because the fastest way to kill a cost-control project is to make people unable to print.

Budgets attach to whatever your organisation actually looks like — a user, a department, a group, one expensive colour device, or a device tag. When someone is covered by three of those at once, you decide how they combine instead of guessing.

And every reservation, settlement and manual top-up lands in a ledger you can trace job by job, for the day finance asks where the money went.

Measuring print cost is easy. Controlling it is the part that shows up in the budget.

No drivers. No hitches. Hours saved.

Our first driverless install in the UK went live a few hours later after official release. The feedback from the engineer on site: "No hitch, nothing. No drivers saved literal hours."

That's the whole promise of driverless printing — no packaging, no pushing, no rebuilding queues after every Windows update. Just printing that works.

Two things make printing hard to run: the drivers on every workstation and the server they depend on.

The OptimiDoc Cloud embedded app for Kyocera removes both.

Since July 2026, Windows prefers its own built-in IPP driver for new printer installs. Protected Print Mode — no third-party drivers at all — is next.

OptimiDoc Cloud is driverless by design and WPP-compliant — and it keeps the finishing. Finishing options travel as standard IPP attributes, jobs are processed as PDF, and the device is queried at submission time for what it can actually do. Same behaviour across Canon, HP, Xerox, Kyocera, Ricoh. Windows, macOS, Android, Chromebook.
