Ever wished your Pivot Table could just… update itself? 🤔

Well, Excel finally listened.
Meet GROUPBY — one of the newer dynamic functions in Microsoft 365 that might quietly become your new favorite tool.

While Pivot Tables are still great, they come with one small annoyance — you always need to refresh them. GROUPBY does the same job instantly, without any clicking or waiting. ⚡

So what does it do?
It groups identical values in your data and applies one or more functions — like SUM, AVERAGE, or COUNT — directly in a formula. No extra setup needed.

Here’s the best part: you can build clean, dynamic summaries right inside your worksheet.
No manual refresh. No separate Pivot Table sheet. Just data that updates automatically. ✅

If you want to give it a try, I’ve prepared a simple Excel exercise with step-by-step explanations and examples: 👉 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Qmf73V4afsw3hUiOzWGr8Fmf7i4y27qv/view?usp=sharing

GROUPBY also has several optional arguments worth exploring — I’ll cover those in one of my next posts.

Have you already tried GROUPBY? Let me know in the comments 👇

💡 What if you could generate entire date lists or numbered sequences with a single formula?
Discover SEQUENCE, your secret weapon in Excel.

SEQUENCE is one of the most powerful functions I started using a few years ago. It opens the door to dynamic arrays – finally, Excel can do more than just copy formulas and cells!

With SEQUENCE, you can:
✔ Create numbered lists
✔ Generate dates or weekdays
✔ Build interactive reports and dashboards that react to user choices

It’s one of my personal favorites, so today I’m sharing 7 practical examples, including one more advanced scenario.

🚀 Did you know Excel checkboxes can do even more?

Excel checkboxes are a fantastic feature. Insert one, click, and you’re done – checked or unchecked. Simple. ✅ But what if you want only one checkbox active at a time? That’s what we usually call a toggle switch.

👉 I’ve prepared a ready-to-use VBA script that transforms checkboxes into a toggle switch:

Works in an Excel table with a column of checkboxes

Allows only one to be checked at a time

Just update 2 values in the code (instructions included)

Where can this help?
• Selecting a default account
• Choosing a preferred shipping method
• Or anytime you want only one option selected

📥 You can download the practice workbook with the script here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xLNS0tpOtnXUwS-9kBTfnOjGBPLZg_ck/view?usp=sharing

⚠️ Remember: enable macros when opening the file, otherwise the code won’t run.

💡 Did you know that more than 65% of Excel users still use VLOOKUP as their main function?

When I saw this number, it really surprised me. VLOOKUP is good, but Excel already gives us something better. That’s why I decided to start this series.

My personal mission is to help reduce that percentage and show why XLOOKUP is the smarter choice. XLOOKUP is more flexible, easier to use, and once you try it, you will not want to go back.

This is part 3 of the series.

Today we look at the match_mode argument. At first it seems small, but it can be very powerful. Match_mode is optional, but in the right situation it can save you time and remove frustration.

Here is what you can do with it:

• Find exact matches (default)
• Find the next smaller value
• Find the next larger value
• Use wildcards when the text is incomplete

These options are very useful when your data is messy, when you work with ranges, or when you just need Excel to give you the closest result instead of an error.

And don’t worry if you missed the earlier parts. I collected all the practice files from every lesson here:

So you can start from the basics, then learn error handling, and finally continue with today’s match_mode.

✨ My goal is simple: To help you work smarter, not harder — and to make Excel less stressful for everyday work.

🚀 4 Excel Myths That Are Slowing You Down

Excel is full of myths… and some of them are secretly stealing your hours. 😱 Maybe you still believe a few of them?

1️⃣ Myth: „VLOOKUP is the best function for looking up data.“
✨ Reality: XLOOKUP is smarter, faster, and can even search left! No more workarounds.

2️⃣ Myth: „Copy & Paste is the fastest way to work.“
⚡ Reality: Automation (Power Query, formulas, linked sheets) does the heavy lifting – without mistakes and way faster!

3️⃣ Myth: „Knowing just the basic formulas is enough.“
🧠 Reality: Basics are fine… until your workload explodes. Advanced formulas save hours every week.

4️⃣ Myth: „Excel is only for numbers.“
📊 Reality: Think schedules, project tracking, reports… Excel can do it all.

💬 Which of these myths did you still believe today? And what other Excel myths should we add to the list?

Do you want to use SUMIFS in Excel so it fills out a whole table for you?

SUMIF and SUMIFS are some of the most common Excel functions. Everyone who works with Excel should know how to use them. Usually, learning the basics is easy. But can you use SUMIFS in a way that one formula fills an entire table automatically?

If you can, it saves a lot of time and effort. Instead of writing many formulas for each cell, you write just one. Excel then fills the results for all rows and columns based on your data.

To help you learn this skill, I made a simple training file for you to practice with. You can download it here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pJ9lKGFdOLQzlN2pGMfQNUDGwVzr6J7o/view?usp=sharing

Learning how to use SUMIFS well will make your work faster and easier. It helps you avoid mistakes and makes your reports more professional.

Give it a try and see how much time you can save! 😊

If you want more Excel tips that make your life easier, I share them regularly.

❓Tired of updating your weekly reports manually?
CREATE A ROLLING 10-WEEK LIST

Here’s how to create a XX-week rolling list that just works even when the year ends.

📌 Use this formula to generate the list dynamically:

👇 ISOWEEKNUM version (week 1 = first week with Thursday):
=LET(
today, TODAY(),
currentWeek, ISOWEEKNUM(today),
maxWeek, ISOWEEKNUM(DATE(YEAR(today), 12, 28)),
MOD(SEQUENCE(10,,currentWeek,1)-1, maxWeek) + 1
)

WEEKNUM version (week 1 = week with Jan 1st):
=LET(
today, TODAY(),
currentWeek, WEEKNUM(today, 2),
maxWeek, WEEKNUM(DATE(YEAR(today), 12, 31), 2),
MOD(SEQUENCE(10,,currentWeek,1)-1, maxWeek) + 1
)

🔁 The formula handles year-end rollovers and adjusts the list accordingly — so you always get the correct sequence of 10 upcoming weeks.
✅ Adjust the sequence and generate a weekly list of any length you need.
✅ Try it out and make your reporting life easier!

Still reaching for VLOOKUP like it's 2010? Time to upgrade your Excel life.

Last week, I started sharing a few tips on the XLOOKUP function. It’s still one of the most underrated tools in Excel, even though it’s easier, smarter, and much more flexible than VLOOKUP or HLOOKUP.

To help others discover the joy of using XLOOKUP, I’m putting together a short series of practical exercises. This is part two.

In today’s episode, we take a look at the if_not_found parameter and how beautifully it works with conditional formatting. You will also try another example of the SPILL feature, where a single formula fills multiple cells like magic.

Here are the practice files:

👉 XLOOKUP Exercise 1 (if you missed it):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1m74eboHPLdcgmm7_zS-ScRHMNAjVZGgB/view?usp=sharing

👉 XLOOKUP Exercise 2:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/14C9Q365hfBWwuT4SIdnrsvtx8shOupBn/view?usp=sharing

Next time you feel tempted to type VLOOKUP or HLOOKUP, take a deep breath, remember this post, and give XLOOKUP a try.
