WEDOS WEDOS - WE DO Security
"Don't let DDoS attacks bring your site down - trust us for security." With success came an increase in cyber attacks.

WEDOS was founded in 2010 and within 31 months became the largest web hosting provider in the Czech Republic. In the following years, our market share increased and our services became popular in other countries. In 2021 and 2022, attacks on us exceeded 300 Gbps and we realized that the only way to survive was to build a massive global infrastructure where we could detect and filter attacks direct

ly in a cetain location. And so the WEDOS Global infrastructure was born. We currently have over 1000 physical servers in 24 locations in 17 countries on 5 continents with over 2000 Gbps of connectivity. We can protect large projects as well as small personal sites and at the same price. At WEDOS Global we run a number of services. The most popular is WEDOS Global Protection, which protects you from classic L3/L4 DDoS attacks and application (L7) layer threats. Because the service is built as a reverse proxy, it allows us to perform in-depth traffic analysis. Thus, we can not only detect an attack in real time, but also distinguish a real visitor from a malicious bot. As a nice bonus, the service automatically stores static content of your site in the locations with the most active users. Another service is WEDOS Zone, which is BGP AnyCast. It will significantly improve your website's performance because the DNS closest to the visitor always responds to a query. The service is currently in closed beta testing. If you want to keep an eye on your site's availability, be sure to check out our WEDOS OnLine monitoring system. It will alert you not only if there is an outage or slowdown, but also if you get blacklisted or your certificate expires.

Your website went down at 2 AM. Who picked up the phone? 🔴

For most businesses, the answer is: nobody.

A ticket was opened. An automated response arrived. And by morning, the damage was done. Lost revenue, frustrated customers, a reputation that takes months to rebuild.

This is the reality of relying on platforms built for millions of anonymous users. You're not a priority. You're a number on a spreadsheet.

WEDOS Protection was built differently.

When an attack hits, our CSIRT team is already on it. Not because you filed a ticket, but because we saw it coming. Real specialists. Real response. No queue.

And while the big platforms route your traffic through US infrastructure, with all the GDPR implications that come with it, your data with us never leaves the EU. Not a policy promise. A technical fact.

🔍 We don't just block IP addresses. We fingerprint attack behavior, so when attackers rotate IPs, we still stop them.
🌍 125+ locations worldwide. Global protection. European accountability.
⚡ Live in minutes. No migration. No DevOps team required.

The question isn't whether an attack will come. It's whether you'll be ready.

Did you know that in April 2021, we were hit by what is likely the largest DDoS attack in Czech internet history?

Hundreds of gigabits per second. 72 hours of relentless assault. Attacks from every corner of the world.

And that's when we learned something that changed everything:

👉 Even the most powerful hardware won't save you if the attack hits a single point.

Three 100 Gbps routes, top-tier switches, best-in-class filters — and we were still pushed to the edge. Not because we weren't prepared. But because centralized protection has its limits.

That experience is exactly what sparked our vision for WEDOS Global Protection — distributed, resilient, built for the internet's reality.

What's more expensive? DDoS protection, or 3 hours of downtime on a Friday afternoon?
Most website owners think attacks only happen to big companies. That no attacker has time to bother with a small e-shop.
Wrong.

All it takes is being in the wrong place at the wrong time — and within hours, the server chokes on itself. Logs fill the disk. The database crashes. The website goes down. And all you get is a notification saying "something isn't working."
We wrote an article about what's actually happening inside the server during a DDoS attack — phase by phase, from a sysadmin's perspective. Not written for IT people. Written for you.

Because if you don't understand the risk, you can't defend against it.

There's a common misconception about how DDoS protection works.

People imagine a wall. Traffic hits it, bad stuff bounces off.

The reality is closer to a river system.

Without protection, all traffic flows directly to your server. Legitimate and malicious together. A large enough attack simply floods it.

With anycast edge protection, traffic enters the nearest of 120+ global nodes first. Malicious packets are filtered there, before they ever travel further. Clean traffic continues to your infrastructure. The end user notices nothing. Your server never sees the attack.

Three layers handle different threats. L3/L4 covers volumetric attacks at the network level. L7/WAF catches malicious HTTP patterns, bots, and scrapers. GeoIP and rate limiting add behavioral filtering in real time.

The key insight is that the protection doesn't sit in front of your server. It sits at the edge of the internet, where the attack originates.

That's the difference between absorbing an attack and never receiving it.

Hop hop hop, don't let it drop, here's an attack that won't just stop, if the filter missed the top, captcha gives it quite a bop, Protection blocks it - every drop!

Happy Easter!

Introducing: CDN by WEDOS

Your data is available.
And at the same time… it isn’t.

With Schrödinger CDN™, we bring a new approach to content delivery. Every request is both successful and unsuccessful — until someone actually looks at it.

This allows us to achieve unprecedented flexibility and a completely new perspective on uptime.

If your website works, it works perfectly.
If it doesn’t… you’re not entirely sure it was supposed to.

For enterprise customers, we offer Pendulum Cache™, where content is both cached and not cached, depending on who is asking.

Do you know when your security stops working?

The moment someone “clogs” your internet connection.

In that situation, it doesn’t matter how good your firewall or server security is. If the attack reaches your network and saturates your link, nothing behind it can save you.

👉 That’s exactly why we presented WEDOS Global Protection at the IT Security Workshop.

How does it work?
✔️ We stop the attack before it even reaches you
✔️ Traffic is filtered across a global network (not just locally)
✔️ Your internet connection stays free and operational

👉 What is a volumetric attack ?
A volumetric attack is a type of DDoS attack where an attacker sends a massive amount of network traffic toward a server.
The server itself may be working perfectly fine.
The real problem is that the internet connection leading to the server becomes saturated.
Once the connection is full, legitimate visitors simply cannot reach the website.

👉 Why this also affects small websites ?
Unlike other attacks, the attacker does not need to hack the application or the server.
They only need to send more traffic to the target than the available network capacity can handle.
And that can happen even to smaller websites.

👉 How to prevent these attacks?
Volumetric attacks need to be handled before the traffic reaches the server — at the infrastructure level.
Specialized protection systems analyze incoming traffic and filter malicious requests before they can saturate the connection.
One of such services is WEDOS Protection.

🛡️ When people talk about protecting websites, most imagine a large attack that floods a server with massive amounts of traffic.

Modern infrastructure can usually filter these attacks quite effectively before they even reach the website itself.

However, real world practice over the past years shows that attackers often take a different approach.

Instead of sending huge volumes of traffic, they generate large numbers of normal looking requests.
For example requests to login pages, search functions, shopping carts or APIs.

At first glance this looks like regular visitors.
But for an application such as WordPress or an e-shop it means thousands of additional operations.

The result can be a slow website or a completely unavailable service.

That is why today it is no longer enough to protect only the infrastructure.
It is also important to understand what is happening inside the application itself and detect this behavior early.

Because attackers often do not try to bring down the whole internet.
They only need to slow down or disrupt a specific service.
