Active versus Passive Components:

Active devices and passive devices are two fundamental categories in electronics based on their behavior within a circuit.

Active devices, such as transistors and integrated circuits, require an external power source to operate. They have the ability to amplify signals, control the flow of current, and generate oscillations. Active devices are often used in applications where signal processing, amplification, or control is necessary, such as in amplifiers, oscillators, and digital logic circuits. Their operation is dependent on the power supplied to them, which allows them to actively manipulate signals.

On the other hand, passive devices, like resistors, capacitors, and inductors, do not require an external power source and do not amplify signals. Instead, they modify or regulate the flow of current, voltage, or energy in a circuit. Passive devices are commonly used to control the characteristics of a circuit, such as filtering, energy storage, and impedance matching. They play a crucial role in circuit design but do not actively amplify or generate signals themselves.
