Meet Bruno — our new virtual colleague, currently in his testing phase.

Bruno is an internal tool, so he's currently available only for project team and will be gradually introduced to our colleagues across multiple countries.

Right now, colleagues can try him out by calling or chatting with him in multiple languages and share feedback that will help fine-tune his future role.

Think of it as onboarding… but for him.

This testing phase gives us real-life input, helps us understand where Bruno brings the most value, and prepares the ground for wider use across the company.

Bruno is being shaped to support simple, repeatable requests anytime — making help easier to access and freeing up human experts for more complex topics.

Think: quick answers to common questions, step-by-step guidance, and directing colleagues to the right specialist support when needed

Beyond Our Building: Closer to the Business We Support

The DHB management team visited the Heidelberg Materials CZ plant in Mokrá-Horákov to see the cement plant modernization up close, including the construction of the new kiln that will replace the two existing ones.

For us as an IT team, it was a great opportunity to stay close to the business, strengthen relationships and better understand the real production environment we support every day.

The visit included an introduction to the modernisation project, lunch in the canteen for our colleagues from China, and a tour of the construction site in full safety gear. We saw moving cranes, changing routes, the kiln control room, the old preheater tower and even a dedicated safety training container simulating work at height, electric shock and falling objects.

Thank you to our colleagues from Heidelberg Materials CZ for the warm welcome, hospitality and the chance to see the business we support from a completely different perspective.

Even in 2026, we are continuing our "Well-being Program" initiative - last Wednesday we did "DHB for DHB" event where all of us could choose from several activities focused on improvement of our individual well-being - activities which we love doing 💚. During the 2-hour timeslot some of us played badminton 🏸 while others spent the time reading a book 📖 or playing board games with the team.

At the end of the day, there was a healthy smoothie for all of us being prepared so we can end the day with some energizing and vitamine rich snack. 😋

What well-being activities do you think are the best employer practice? And is there even such a thing?

Our newest “hire” is a bit… different 🤖

We recently welcomed a robotic colleague to support our operations as a Predictive Maintenance Coordinator. While the technology itself is impressive, the most challenging part of innovation wasn’t the robot 👀—it was the environment around it.

Getting everything up and running required significant effort: building a reliable digital backbone, ensuring stable connectivity even in demanding conditions, and meeting strict cybersecurity standards so every data path is secure. At the same time, we had to “teach” our new colleague how to navigate complex terrain, avoid obstacles, and collect meaningful measurements.

Today, it performs infrastructure checks 24/7, helping us identify potential issues early and move from reactive maintenance to a truly predictive model.

This isn’t just about one robot. It’s about building a connected ecosystem where data and technology communicate seamlessly—enhancing the capabilities of our people and shaping the future 📈 of our operations.

Not all heroes wear suits. Some bring gloves, a willingness to get their hands dirty, and a lot of energy. 💪

Last week, our team swapped laptops for hands-on work and spent the day volunteering at a local zoo—and the impact was real.

We split into three groups:
🌿 One team cleaned up the zoo grounds
🪵 Another got busy chopping wood
💧And the third cleared a drainage channel near the DinoPark

Sometimes, the best way to connect is to step outside, and do something that matters.

This Saturday, our Global Operations team hosted a LAN party to settle an important question: who’s actually the most skilled in the games we love. 👾

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to teambuilding - so this time, we dived what some of us enjoy most: a solid dose of gaming and friendly competition!

A Chance to Connect Beyond the Screen

Katarína Tchurova Our Managing Director and Head of Application Delivery Corporate Functions recently spent several days at Heidelberg Materials Digital Hub, Ghana meeting colleagues and partners across the region.

Her goal was simple but powerful: meet face-to-face with the teams, understand their plans, targets and development priorities, and strengthen relationships that have often existed only through online conversations.

🤝 One of the biggest highlights for her was meeting IT directors in person after 7–8 years of working together remotely. Seeing the business environment in Africa first-hand and observing how ERP systems support daily operations brought valuable insights. Even more important were the conversations with local teams about what works well and what could be improved.

Another interesting moment was meeting with IT Manager William Everett for HM Trading and discuss topics including commodity trading and future technology challenges.

The program also included various workshops, openly discussing pains, challenges and opportunities for improvement — all in a very constructive atmosphere.

✨ And beyond the meetings, Africa offered memorable cultural moments.

A particularly interesting stop, that Katarína mentioned, was the mausoleum of Ghana’s first president, where historical photographs included one surprising connection — a visit by Czechoslovak president.

But when asked what stood out the most, the answer was simple:
the hospitality, openness and friendliness of the people.

A great reminder that strong partnerships are built not only in meeting rooms, but also through shared experiences.

We have recently spent some time with Petr on a coffee, talking about his promotion, and found out Petr has interesting background which would be a pity not to share. Take a peak at how did Petr´s journey at DHB go so far (especially recommended to all SAP Engineers). 👇

"Two years ago, when I was contacted about a Support Engineer position at Heidelberg Materials Digital Hub, I saw it as just another offer. Let’s be honest: IT support is not a glamorous job. It is not as creative as media production, not as exciting as AI, and not as “monumental” as big data. Support teams often work in the background and are noticed mainly when something goes wrong.

After 25 years of SAP consulting across Europe, I was pleasantly surprised by "new" benefits, such as a paid one-month sabbatical after five years, and by the company’s prosocial culture with team events and activities - children days, or ski trips which are not that regular elsewhere.

What truly surprised me was the team itself. There is no ego or empty presentations here. We work like a sports team: difficult problems are solved together, and success belongs to the whole group. We learn from each other, help one another, no one is left behind.

We are in daily contact with developers and specialists not only in Heidelberg but all over the world, so English is our working language. I also value that managers really respect teamwork, not just as a slogan.

Why am I writing this? Simply because we are looking for a new colleague to join our team. Despite global challenges, the company keeps growing and the Brno support center is becoming more important worldwide—from Australia and China to Africa and North America. Like any good team, we need reliable backup. Maybe my story will inspire someone to join us. 😊"

Last year we brought together Cloud Foundation and Cloud DevOps 😶‍🌫️

Colleagues from Brno, Heidelberg, and Varna met for a workshop in Heidelberg.

We focused on building the best cooperation model, sharing knowledge, and brainstorming automation ideas—while also making time for great walks around the city and a visit to Heidelberg Castle.

And of course, no team event would be complete without our favorite restaurant and the legendary pork knuckle challenge 🐷🍺

Great people, great discussions, great memories.
