🚢 💡Key insights from our Changing the Tide Event held in Athens on 28 May

AI readiness is not one thing. It is a sequence.

Before companies move into advanced AI, autonomous workflows, or agentic decision-making, they need the basics in place: reliable systems, connected data, clear governance, and an analytics layer that people actually trust.

We spoke about the common mistake many organisations make, treating AI as a technology purchase rather than an operating model shift. In many sectors, decisions are complex, data sits across many systems, and the cost of poor information can be very real.

The key message was simple: the future is not more dashboards. The future is better decisions.

That means moving from fragmented reporting to trusted intelligence across operations, finance, crew, vessels, risk, and commercial performance.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such an engaged discussion. These are exactly the conversations we need to be having now, before AI moves from experimentation into core business ex*****on.

We were pleased to participate in the “Meet the Maritime Tech & Investment Landscape” event in Athens on the 29th of May.

The discussion reflected what many shipping companies are facing right now. Decisions around AI and digital transformation are already being made, yet many organisations are still building the internal fluency needed to assess solutions, understand the risks, govern their use, and lead their people through the change.

For us, this is exactly where the real work begins.

AI in maritime is not only a technology conversation. It is an operational, financial, geopolitical and human conversation. It affects how decisions are made, how risk is managed, how teams work, and how organisations prepare for a future where technology will increasingly sit at the centre of business performance.

What made this event especially valuable was its open, symposium-style format. The conversation moved beyond polished presentations and allowed for direct exchange between experts, investors, maritime leaders and the audience. That is where meaningful insight happens.

Thank you to the organisers for bringing this conversation together, and to everyone who contributed to such an open and insightful exchange.

We look forward to continuing the dialogue with maritime leaders who are ready to move from AI curiosity to AI readiness.

🛳️When we first thought about hosting an event in Athens, the idea was simple: bring together a small group of senior shipping executives for an open conversation about where technology, data, and AI are taking the shipping industry.

Today, we did exactly that.

A sincere thank you to everyone who made time in an exceptionally busy time, with so many Posidonia related events taking place, to join us, share your perspectives, and engage so openly.

Yesterday, our Technical Project Manager Constantinos Florides delivered an interactive two-hour session with the topic “Thriving in the AI Era” to the students of Post-Secondary Institutes of Vocational Education and Training.

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries and redefine the future of work, preparing and empowering the next generation has never been more important. The session explored practical AI tools, emerging opportunities, and how students can develop the mindset and skills needed to adapt, create, and succeed in an evolving digital landscape.

It was inspiring to connect with future professionals and showcase how technology is not only transforming the way we work but also opening doors to entirely new possibilities. Investing knowledge and digital readiness today means building a stronger workforce for tomorrow.

Participating in the “Riding the Wave: Advancing the EU Ocean Pact through Science, Innovation and Cooperation” conference has been a great reminder of how important it is to sometimes step back and observe how industries, organisations, and businesses are evolving. 🌊🇪🇺

Working in AI and technology solutions, it’s easy to focus only on the technical side. But real innovation happens when we truly understand the challenges, priorities, and direction of each business ecosystem.

Events like this provide valuable insights into:
• How industries are transforming through innovation
• The emerging needs of organisations and stakeholders
• The importance of collaboration between research, policy, and business
• How AI and technology can be adapted to create meaningful and practical solutions

We would like to warmly congratulate the Shipping Deputy Ministry of Cyprus and Ms Marina Hadjimanolis, Deputy Minister of Shipping of Cyprus for the successful organisation of the High Level Conference with the title: Shaping Policy, Driving Change, in Brussels yesterday in the context of the Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council. Monica Ioannidou Polemitis participated in the conference alongside other WISTA members. As part of the Conference, WISTA Cyprus President Anna Pittalis presented the Honors for Diversity and Inclusion.
