The 5G-MILNET consortium recently gathered in Sophia Antipolis, France, for the Year 1 General Assembly. Hosted by EURECOM, the partners met to review the first year’s progress and align on the next phases of development.

5G-MILNET’s overall objective is to establish an on-demand, reliable, and cost-effective next-generation communications network for European military forces on the battlefield, utilising rapidly deployable 5G nodes that are strategically placed and operated autonomously, without the need for fixed infrastructure.

Representing eBOS, Dr. Gianna Ioannou, PhD and Dr. Andreas Sousanis led discussions on AI-empowered Software-Defined Perimeter for secure connectivity, the preliminary design of architectural components and specifications, and quality assurance, risk management, and the project’s intellectual property management. As the project enters its second year, the consortium is preparing for the experimental development and testing phases, scheduled to begin in the coming months.
