Joule

Joule Designed for rebels with a vision, for rule-breakers who create their own story.
That's how Joule was born. He felt it in his gut.

The brightest ideas, the coolest products, come when we stop and think about the 'why', and challenge what we know. When we find the courage to say f*ck this, and make our own rules. One winter day in Toronto, Canada, our founder and CEO, Harp Ghoman, got into a fight with an extension cord. In that moment, in the midst of messy cable hell, he thought, "Is this really the best we can do?" and "Am

I the only one with a secret loathing for all things that suck??"

In true rebel fashion, Harp knew his answer. So, instead of "letting sh*t go" and moving on, he decided to do something about the state of power strips in the world. He started by challenging the very idea of what a power strip should be. Why should it not be gorgeous? Why could it not be more user friendly? It could, and it would, and power strips would no longer have to suck again. In that shiny lightbulb moment, Joule was conceived to partner with creativity and inspiration, and look great doing it. That's the story of how Joule came to be. And that very idea of thinking outside the box, of leading change, is the essence of Joule and our products.

Where's your power strip? Bet it's hiding behind or under some furniture and you haven't thought about it until you need to plug something in. Not exactly easily accessible, is it? Joule is not the power strip you hide. It's the one you leave out in the open: on your computer desk, on the coffee table, on your nightstand. Because it looks so damn good you're not ashamed for it to be seen and now your power strip is there when you need it. You're welcome.

Our bright idea: put lights in the outlets. Seems like common sense, ya? And yet not so damn common. The idea is simple: lighted outlets help you plug sh*t in so you're not fumbling around in the dark. Duh. (insert light bulb moment here)

Why does a power strip need a three-position power switch? It doesn't. But we did a little research on stand-by power draw and one simple fix is a third setting on the power switch. Now our customers can simply turn off the three electrical outlets and the lights inside Joule, and keep the USB ports working. Some pretty handy sh*t right there.

Having options is awesome. It would have been easier (and cheaper) to have a permanently attached power cord. But one cable length does not fit every need, and usually leads to excess cable mess or daisy-chaining power strips (not safe, btw. stop that!). Our solution was a detachable and interchangeable cable mount system to give our customers the ability to customize their setup.

Was it worth covering the entire base of Joule with a silicone pad? Absolutely. Because while we could have saved a little expense, we decided it's worth it to give Joule a solid, no-slip grip so Joule stays put where you put it.
