Interestingly, the survey that performs stack overflow every year on programming languages. It is a mandatory reference for those who want to keep informed about programming languages, their popularity and where the new trends point. For example I will start studying Java. I just learned that there is a programming language called Rust and that the programming language associated with higher salaries is Clojure. The most popular language is Java Script, I program with the seventh most popular (C #) and that with all the pain of my soul, I belong to that group that now must seem like a secret society of people who still program in Perl (it is not mentioned in the lists). Excel function:
We have a cell with information about a path, like the following example:
E:\FOLDER1\FOLDER2\FOLDER3\FOLDER4\FileName.ext
We want a function that allows to go down in to the folders. The following function helps with this:
Function GetPathWin(folder As String, d As Integer)
Dim a() As String
Dim nf As String
'nf = ""
Dim i As Integer
a = Split(folder, "\")
For i = 0 To d
If i < 1 Then
nf = a(i)
End If
If i > 0 Then
nf = nf & "\" & a(i)
End If
Next i
GetPathWin = nf & "\"
End Function
Add this function in a module in the VBA environment.
Into a cell, write the following:
=GetPathWin(A1;3) (or comma, depending on the language of your Excel).
The cell A1 es where the complete path is. The number after comma is the number of folders we want from the drive (not including the letter of the drive)
According to the example, into the cell you will see:
E:\FOLDER1\FOLDER2\FOLDER3\

This function only works in Windows. Later, I will publish the option for Mac.
