🌩️Why are more engineers choosing Gas Discharge Tubes (GDTs) for surge protection?

In critical systems such as communications, power supply, and monitoring, a lightning strike or transient voltage may cause equipment paralysis, data loss, and even fire hazards.

GDT (gas discharge tube), as a gap-type overvoltage protection component, is becoming an "invisible guard" to cope with these challenges.

Working Principle of the LED Driver Circuit
This is a simple LED driver circuit designed to operate directly from an AC mains supply. It is compact and cost-effective, ideal for low-power LED lighting applications.
The circuit starts with a two-prong plug connected to the AC mains power supply.
A 1µF 250V metalized film capacitor (red component) acts as a current-limiting dropper. A 1MΩ resistor in parallel helps discharge the capacitor when power is off, improving safety.
A 680V Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) is used to absorb voltage spikes and prevent them from damaging the circuit.
A 0.22Ω 2W resistor limits inrush current when the circuit is first powered on, protecting components like the rectifier and capacitor.
A bridge rectifier converts AC to DC, with two terminals for AC input () and two for DC output (+ and -).
A large electrolytic capacitor (likely 4.7µF 400V) smooths the rectified DC voltage, ensuring stable operation of the LEDs.
The LED board contains multiple LEDs arranged in a circular layout. A 10Ω 2W resistor is connected in series to limit current and protect the LEDs.
This transformerless circuit lacks electrical isolation and must be handled carefully to avoid electric shock.
