Jiemo's Tales of Wonder is a vibrant and engaging manga-style graphic novel, perfect for comic lovers and English language learners alike. Based on the real-life adventures of my dog Jiemo, a playful, adventurous Cavalier King Charles Spaniel-Cocker Spaniel mix.

This comic book series follows her exciting journeys across China with her American dad. (me)

Whether she's exploring breathtaking landscapes, visiting ancient temples or battling imaginary foes, Jiemo's lively spirit and vivid imagination make every adventure unforgettable.

This graphic novel is written in both English and Simplified Chinese, (other languages coming soon) making it an excellent resource for learners of both languages. Each issue also includes a helpful dual-language vocabulary list, supporting readers in expanding their language skills while enjoying Jiemo's heartwarming stories.

I am creating Issue 2 now, Robot Kitty Cataclysm dropping in about 2 weeks

Look at what you have wrought!

Biden’s EV Tariffs: A Misguided Blow to American Consumers and the Free Market.

The Biden administration’s decision to impose 100% tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) is ostensibly aimed at protecting the U.S. auto industry from Chinese competition. However, this protectionist measure is likely to do more harm than good, particularly for American consumers and the broader principles of free market capitalism.

First, consider the impact on American consumers. The U.S. EV market currently lacks affordable modern options. Chinese EVs, which the Biden administration allegedly claims are heavily subsidized by the Chinese government, offer advanced technology at far more competitive prices, filling a gap in the U.S. market.

By imposing steep tariffs, the Biden administration is effectively removing these cost-effective and technologically superior vehicles from the market. This leaves American consumers with fewer choices and higher prices, stalling the adoption of environmentally friendly transportation at a time when it is most needed.

Volvo and Polestar are both made in China, will their prices double?

Moreover, the tariffs are not limited to finished vehicles but also target lithium batteries and other crucial components imported from China. Many U.S. automakers rely on these Chinese-made parts to produce their own EVs. The increased costs will inevitably be passed on to consumers, further driving up the prices of domestic EVs. This move undermines the administration’s own goals of promoting electric vehicle adoption and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The argument that these tariffs will protect U.S. jobs and the domestic auto industry is shortsighted. Historically, U.S. automakers have received substantial subsidies, multiple bail-outs and tax incentives to maintain their competitiveness. If the goal is to bolster the U.S. auto industry, there are more effective strategies available that do not involve penalizing consumers and escalating international tensions.

Retaliation from China is another significant risk. The Chinese government is likely to respond with tariffs on U.S. imports, as already hinted by Beijing on May 22nd, 2024 which could harm American businesses and escalate the ongoing trade war. This tit-for-tat approach only serves to heighten hostilities between the two economic superpowers, making it more difficult to find cooperative solutions to global issues like climate change and economic stability.

Critically, this tariff policy appears to be less about economic pragmatism and more about political posturing. By adopting a protectionist stance reminiscent of former President Donald Trump’s policies, President Biden seems to be courting the same anti-China sentiment that has been a hallmark of Trump’s MAGA base. This move flies in the face of free market principles and undermines the U.S. commitment to global trade norms.

For decades, the U.S. has championed free market capitalism, advocating for minimal government interference and the promotion of competition. These tariffs represent a stark departure from these ideals, suggesting a troubling shift towards economic nationalism. If the Biden administration truly aims to support American innovation and competitiveness, it should focus on investing in domestic R&D, infrastructure, and workforce development rather than resorting to punitive tariffs.

In conclusion, the 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs are a misguided policy that will harm American consumers, escalate trade tensions, and contradict the principles of free market capitalism. The Biden administration should reconsider this approach and seek alternative strategies to strengthen the U.S. auto industry without resorting to protectionism. This will not only benefit American consumers but also uphold the values that have long underpinned the U.S. economy.

Beijing is ramping up threats of retaliation as a deadline looms for the EU to announce results of its probe into China’s electric-vehicle subsidies. The bloc must inform Chinese exporters whether it intends to impose tariffs by early June, and they could go into effect a month later.
