How to choose Fiber optic HDMI cable and oridinary HDMI copper cable?
1. Wire core material
The optical fiber HDMI cable uses an optical fiber core, and the ordinary HDMI cable uses a copper wire core.
Optical fiber cores are generally divided into glass optical fiber and plastic optical fiber. Glass optical fiber has less loss, but plastic optical fiber has lower cost. In order to ensure performance, it is generally recommended to use plastic optical fibers for distances below 50 meters, and glass optical fibers for distances above 50 meters.
Usually we choose copper core HDMI cables for short-distance transmission with low cost. Copper core wires also support av signal synchronous transmission, but during long-distance transmission, copper core wires have large transmission losses and signal attenuation.
The difference in material also determines the huge difference in appearance, image quality, transmission rate, etc. between optical fiber HMDI and ordinary HDMI. For example, optical fiber cables will be very thin, light, and soft; while HDMI copper core cables are relatively thicker, heavier, hard.
2. Built-in chip
The optical fiber HDMI cable needs two photoelectric conversion modules. Once, the electrical signal is converted into an optical signal, and then the optical signal is transmitted in the optical fiber line, and then the optical signal is converted into an electrical signal to realize the effective transmission of the signal from the SOURCE end to the DISPLAY end.
Ordinary copper core HDMI cables use electrical signal transmission.
3. Transmission performance
For short-distance transmission, there is little difference in the transmission rate between copper-core HDMI cable and fiber-optic HDMI cable, and copper-core HDMI cable is cheaper and more cost-effective. Therefore, copper-core HDMI cable is recommended for short-distance connection.
However, in long-distance transmission, the advantages of optical fiber HDMI are very obvious. Optical fiber HDMI signal transmission is not affected by EMI, and the transmission attenuation is basically negligible. It can support lossless transmission signals over 150 meters, breaking through the length limit, and without signal amplifier. Ideal for gaming and demanding industries.
4. Price difference
The price of copper core wire is cheaper. The optical fiber HDMI cable is generally several times more expensive than the copper core HDMI cable. Therefore, the current conventional copper core HDMI cable is still irreplaceable in terms of cost performance.
However, there are reasons why optical fiber HDMI is expensive. For example, it is light in size and weight, suitable for large-area embedding, has super bending and impact resistance, and has the advantages of long transmission distance and lossless transmission. Video information and audio information are completely unaffected. External electromagnetic interference ensures high fidelity of transmitted signals.
Especially for the transmission of audio signal with extremely signal quality requirements, the ultra-low noise floor ensures extremely pure sound. These two features are especially important for home theaters, because even if it is a living room theater, the pre-buried HDMI cable is at least 10 meters above.
5. Application scope
Copper HDMI is more suitable for short-distance transmission.
Optical fiber HDMI cable can be used in various occasions that need to output high-definition image display equipment and large-area wiring connections. The application fields are very wide, such as: home theater system, remote information distribution system, radio and television control system, public security high-definition monitoring system , high-definition video conferencing office system, multimedia system, large medical imaging system, industrial automation system, etc.
