The Philippines' Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) had its new logo design contest last March and they recently revealed the top pick out of 600 submissions. Unfortunately, my design didn't make the final cut.
I’m sharing my design entry. Please check out the detailed brief for better understanding and appreciation. I have chosen a unique inspiration: the Sampaguita (Jasminum sambac), the national flower of the Philippines. The symbolism of Sampaguita's honesty and purity perfectly aligns with BIR’s core values of integrity and trust. To complement the logo, I used a fresh color palette and simple yet strong typography that represent the BIR's mandate of providing "service excellence with integrity and professionalism" while keeping up with the modern times.
Despite not making it, I’m still proud and happy about the experience. I learned and realized some important design ideas and techniques. I also want to thank a few people who gave helpful feedback and motivated me throughout this creative process.
Anyway, there are opportunities out there and I’m eager to seize them. Onto the next creative challenge.
And congratulations to the winner. You deserve the cash prize (I hope it’s tax-free haha!).
