What if better irrigation management starts with identifying where you're applying too much water?
For Jim Pavonetti, CGCS at Fairview Country Club, that was one of the unexpected insights from using turfRad.

By using moisture maps to identify wet areas and guide hand-watering, his team can work more precisely. Instead of sending five to seven people to water familiar spots, he now sends three people with targeted maps and completes the work in around 90 minutes.

After decades of working in greenkeeping, agronomy, and golf course management, Eugenio Rezola, EMEA Sales Manager at turfRad, still looks at technology from the perspective of the person responsible for the course.
“The question for me is always the same: how can this information help the person responsible for the golf course make a better decision?”

For Eugenio, better data isn’t simply about having more information. It’s about using that information to understand the course more clearly and support better decisions.

On October 8, Eugenio will bring that perspective to our webinar, “Discovering Your turfRad ROI,” exploring how better decisions can contribute to value across the operation.

A failed satellite box. Low pressure. Uneven nozzle performance. A broken O-ring.
These are all real irrigation issues turf teams have identified through turfRad moisture data - sometimes before there were obvious signs at the surface.
Regular scanning gives teams another way to continuously check irrigation performance: spot an unexpected pattern, investigate the cause, make an adjustment and scan again.
See some of the real-world examples here:

We’ll also explore the value of earlier problem detection during Discovering Your turfRad ROI on October 8.

Jim Pavonetti has been a turfRad pioneer, putting high-density moisture data to work at Fairview Country Club over several seasons.
One of the clearest impacts has been on labor. By knowing exactly where hand watering is needed, Jim’s team can go straight to the areas requiring attention rather than checking fairways across the course. What previously required 5–7 staff working for around five hours can now be handled by three staff in roughly 1.5–2 hours.
Over the first two years of using turfRad, Jim estimates Fairview saved approximately $160,000 in labor normally used for hand watering fairways.

Jim will share his experience at Fairview during our upcoming webinar, “Discovering Your turfRad ROI,” on October 8.

ROI in turf management is about more than the price of water.
So where else does that value show up?
Our latest turfRad Customer Impact Study gives us a closer look at where customers are seeing value:
💧 86% reported reduced overwatering
🎯 79% moved toward more targeted irrigation
⛳ 72% reported improved playing conditions

The findings reinforce something important: ROI doesn’t look exactly the same at every course. Climate, turf type, staffing and operating priorities all influence where the greatest value is felt.

We’ve taken a closer look at some of those different areas in our blog:

And on October 8, we’ll dig further into the findings during our webinar, “Discovering Your turfRad ROI,” alongside real-world customer experiences and how those outcomes can contribute to a stronger business case.

For Dave Wilber, better decisions start with better information.
Dave has spent decades working in turfgrass - as a superintendent, construction site manager, agronomist and consultant, with experience spanning more than 80 countries.

That experience shapes how he approaches technology today. The goal isn’t simply to collect more data. It’s to give turf managers information they can actually use to understand what’s happening across the course and make more informed decisions.

As turfRad’s Director of Agronomy & Customer Success, Dave works closely with customers to connect moisture data with the realities of day-to-day course management.

He’ll bring that perspective to our next webinar, "Discovering Your turfRad ROI", on October 8, exploring how better agronomic decisions can contribute to value across the operation.

📣 Webinar Announcement
What does the return on better moisture data actually look like?
Join us on October 8 at 11 AM ET for our fourth turfRad webinar, "Discovering Your turfRad ROI". We’ll explore how better agronomic decisions can translate into measurable value- from water and labor savings to more efficient irrigation management, earlier problem detection, and greater course consistency.

We’ll also share findings from our recent turfRad ROI & Impact Survey and hear real-world perspectives from Jim Pavonetti, Brian Boll, and Joel Livingood, alongside turfRad’s Dave Wilber and Eugenio Rezola.

What can you learn when you measure moisture across the whole pitch instead of individual points? Our latest article, featured in Turf Business, explores how root-zone moisture mapping is helping grounds teams better understand irrigation performance, changing conditions and moisture variability across natural turf.

The article includes Sevilla FC, where Carlos Venegas Gamero and his team use turfRad as part of their day-to-day pitch management.

“turfRad gives us a different perspective on our pitches. Instead of relying only on isolated measurements, we can understand how moisture behaves across the entire surface and make irrigation decisions with much greater confidence.”

This week, Montclair Golf Club is hosting the USGA U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur - and behind the championship conditions is a moisture-management program built for nearly 90 acres of fairways and greens.

Director of Agronomy Michael Campbell and his team use turfRad together with Spatial Adjust to identify moisture variability across the course and make targeted irrigation adjustments.

Michael estimates the result has been about 30% less water use on fairways, alongside improved consistency and a dramatically simplified watering process.

Congratulations to the Montclair team on a big week for the club!
