The first thing most people do when they want to learn electronics is search Google — and follow kit after kit after kit.

But following instructions isn't the same as learning. After 5 kits, you can follow steps. You still can't design anything.

I had this exact problem 10 years ago. It's what led me to start MSD.

The idea is simple: with every MSD project, you don't just build — you understand how it was designed and why.
Insights into an engineering brain. And with each project covering different parts of electronics, you build up everything you need to create whatever you can imagine.

Every year, designing beginner-friendly kits gets harder.

The electronics industry is moving toward smaller, denser components — which is great for product engineers, but a real problem when your customer is holding a soldering iron for the first time.

USB-C is the one I keep coming back to. Everyone expects it. But one bridged pin and the whole kit is dead.

Someone made a great point in the comments — struggle is essential to learning. No effort, no memory, no satisfaction.

They're absolutely right.

But a kit with instructions doesn't remove the struggle. My first boss used to say: "if you want to design an amplifier, you will always design an oscillator." That still happens to me today — after thousands of builds, every time in a different way.

These kits aren't meant to replace your own projects. They're meant to give you a place to begin. A real project where you learn by doing, so you can take those learnings and build whatever you can imagine.

The struggle is still there. It's just pointed in the right direction. 👇
