Today I saw the first swallowtail butterfly (Papilio machaon).
He flies over the bright green of the meadows between the olive trees.

Cutting the olive trees is a satisfying job, but strolling through the Campo during your lunch break and rediscovering nature over and over again is like a miracle too much!

The hornets are fascinating.
Like many other animals, they love our figs from the big fig tree, from flies to bears and also people. The women from the village make jam, we prefer to eat it fresh, and the insects only buzz around a few times to feast on it again.
I've watched the hornets for a long time, so exciting, but I just don't know enough about them.
What kind of information are the two exchanging?
Why does one hornet open its mandibles so wide? That can't be a threat, given the large supply of food.
Why does the hornet stick bits of food on the fig leaf? Perhaps as a trap to attract flies? Just exciting to watch nature in my campo.
