It’s been an amazing 3 months of intensive acceleration for Wingtap. We are grateful to have been part of the MITdesignX program which culminated in a pitch presentation that condensed all the hard work and ideas that define our venture ✅

Together with 14 other impact-focused startups, we worked with a team of experienced coaches and entrepreneurs: Gilad and Olivier were the pillars of this program together with Andrea, Monique, and Ricky who delivered great insights! From the needs analysis and value proposition all the way to the business model and funding, every aspect was questioned and refined.

It was only made possible thanks to the impeccable organization by Le Rosey and Laura Downhower who have set the best conditions through their new Impact Accelerator program at the school.

The pitch was the highlight, leaving us ready to grow further in 2026! Thank you to the new friends we made and the new perspectives we received 🚀

As we said in our pitch: “we want Wingtap to become the go-to when it comes to all things nonprofit. Now, more than ever, with the urgency of climate change, rising inequalities and social divisions there are many problems that need to be addressed. And it might feel a little overwhelming but the good news is that a lot of nonprofits are already working on solutions. We just need those people to get the attention and support they deserve.”

Wild tigers have lost 90% of their population in the past century… But a study published last week shows that India’s tiger population doubled over the last decade!

Credit is attributed to conservation efforts, government commitments and people’s participation. India’s tiger recovery offers optimism in the fight against extinction. It’s further proof that conservation can rewrite the future for endangered species. Yay!

If you like bananas and mangos you should know that bats are the main pollinators for those trees! They maintain healthy ecosystems by controlling insect populations, pollinating flowers, and planting forests (by spreading seeds 💩). is building a classroom dedicated to bat conservation in Texas, USA 🦇🇺🇸

Build a standalone classroom to teach bat conservation 🎒 Currently, the team travels the country to conduct classes, training hundreds of zoologists, wildlife rehabilitators, biologists, veterinarians, and conservation scientists from across the globe about the care of insectivorous bats 🥼 The new classroom will allow students to gain practical experience in this highly specialized field, as bats require very specific training due to their complex needs.

Bat World Sanctuary is a leading organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation of bats worldwide 🌎 Since its establishment, BWS has saved thousands of injured and orphaned bats and returned them to the wild ⛰️ The sanctuary also provides a permanent refuge for non-releasable bats (retired from zoos, used in research, orphaned, permanently injured, or confiscated from the exotic pet trade).

In 1988, Amanda Lollar rescued an injured Mexican free-tailed bat from a sidewalk, sparking her curiosity about bats 🦇 A few years later she purchases a building to save the home of 30,000 bats. In 1994, Amanda founded Bat World Sanctuary, which in 2023 expanded its rescue centers to Bulgaria, Italy, Japan, and Austria, furthering its mission of bat conservation and rehabilitation on a global scale 🫶

In Nigeria, renewable energy supports the local economy with small business owners! empowers thousands of women to start these new businesses. It is a virtuous cycle of better lives, a sturdier local economy, and a cleaner planet! ☀️🇳🇬

Provide training and equipment for internally displaced women to kickstart clean energy businesses to eradicate energy poverty across Nigeria and create economic opportunities ⚡ This project will recruit 30 women, mitigate 2,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions, and remove the need for 3,000 kg of dangerous kerosene lanterns. The goal is to empower internally displaced women in 12 communities so they can develop and maintain clean energy businesses through economic strengthening and capacity building 💼

Solar Sister empowers women entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa to bring clean energy to off-grid communities, tackling energy poverty and its detrimental effects 💡 They focus on last-mile communities—remote, low-income, or peri-urban areas underserved by traditional power systems. The result 🏆 4.3 million people reached with clean energy products, 10,000+ women entrepreneurs, $300+ Million of economic benefit in off-grid communities, and 1.4+ million Metric Tonnes of CO2 emissions mitigated.

>> Solar Sister: An idea born from watching a farmer
In 2008, Katherine Lucey, a former investment banker, meets Rebecca, a Ugandan farmer who ingeniously uses solar power to light her chicken coop, sparking the idea that would grow into Solar Sister 🧑‍🌾 After the inaugural pilot program in Uganda, they set the stage for a women-driven approach to clean energy distribution 🔋 In 2023, we count 10,000 women entrepreneurs!

From orphanages to loving homes 🏠 Care for Children made it their mission: training families, providing financial support, and working with governments. They’ve already placed over a million kids in homes! 🧒🇰🇭

>> Project details
In Cambodia, the goal is to get children out of orphanages and into loving homes 🏠 But once a child has found a new home, this means additional costs for the families, who sometimes cannot afford it. This project provides them with a monthly budget - it covers food, education, clothing and more. Annually this works out to $850 a year per child 💰 Our first milestone is to help 10 children!

>> Who’s behind it
Care for Children ambitions to move children across the world out of orphanages and into local families, where they can belong and reach their full potential 👪 They help countries reduce their reliance on orphanages and other institutions by developing family-based alternatives for orphans and other vulnerable children, such as long-term foster care.

>> Care for Children: from the first child to the millionth one and beyond
In 1998, the organization launched the first family placement project in Shanghai, setting a new direction for China’s child welfare system. To date, they have placed over 1 million+ children growing up in local, loving families instead of institutional care 📈 trained over 6000 child welfare staff across four countries (China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Armenia), as well as influenced the implementation of 10 pieces of legislation ⚖️

Still in many regions of the world, children and teenagers often don’t finish school because they need to support their families. In Northern Thailand, the additional risk is falling prey to traffickers… but is fighting to prevent that! 🇹🇭🎒

57% of students in Northern Thailand drop out before finishing high school to find work to support their families. These children can also become vulnerable to s*x trafficking and exploitation ⚠️ This project provides scholarships for 50 students with after-school programs, educational camps, and outreach to children who’ve been identified as “at-risk” to ensure their awareness of trafficking and their access to other life choices and opportunities 🧑‍🏫

The Freedom Story focuses on providing scholarships, mentorship, and human rights education tailored to prevent trafficking before it starts 🛡️ They invest in sustainable solutions like organic farming programs for families, which bolster economic independence and stability. With their education program, thanks to donors like you, they have already provided more than 320 scholarships this year! 🎓

>> The Freedom Story: from making movies to taking action
It all started from a documentary, The SOLD Project: Thailand, on child exploitation in Thailand 🎥 The realization of the filmmakers was the urgent need for trafficking prevention. The team combats exploitation by educating at-risk children and communities about their rights and options beyond the constraints of poverty 🚸

✨ Faces of Change: Meet Nanbet ✨

From a struggling mother to a farmer and entrepreneur: Nanbet’s journey shows you how makes a difference ⚡

>> A rough turn of events
Nanbet married young in search of stability and support. After their children were born, her husband decided to sell their farm and left Nanbet and the kids without a home.

>> Taking action
While struggling to put food on the table for her kids, she heard about Solar Sister entrepreneurs 👩‍💼 She was able to buy the minimum product inventory required to join the program and attended training about clean energy and setting up her own business 🌱

>> The seeds you sow
Thanks to her energy and determination, Nanbet started making sales giving her that extra income. She could pay for fertilizers and farmers, increasing the yields on her farm 🌽 At home, she went from burning wood and using kerosene (which releases toxic fumes), to a clean cookstove and solar lights 💡

“Before my life wasn’t like this. People have since been surprised to see me and my children, with meat on our bones, looking healthy.”

(1) Her family can eat healthily and (2) thanks to the new income, Nanbet can send two of her grandchildren to school 🎒 (3) The community can enjoy a better, healthier, and more sustainable quality of life, (4) while the use of renewable energy means less trees cut and less greenhouse gas emissions 🌳

Sea turtles have been around since the age of dinosaurs 🦖 Cruising our oceans for over 100 million years and surviving the mass extinction ☄️ But their survival is on the line again, under the threat of humans this time.

Mostly due to illegal hunting, all seven species of sea turtles are considered endangered. In remote areas like Bocas del Toro (Panama), protecting sea turtles is particularly difficult and poachers get away easily 🏃 But (STC) is fighting back:

Recording sea turtle nesting activity, collecting biometric data, and tagging sea turtles is crucial to better protect them 🔎 STC’s team also patrols the beaches at night, collecting data on threats and collaborating with local partners to report instances of poaching ❌ They motivate local families to speak up for the turtles, as they can provide sustained income for the community through ecotourism 🌴

The Sea Turtle Conservancy, based in Florida, is the world’s oldest sea turtle research and conservation group. Founded in 1959, they’ve been at the forefront of protecting sea turtles and their habitats. Their efforts extend across the globe, making waves in the conservation community 🌎

Did you know that forests grow underwater too? These awesome ecosystems made of giant kelp algae support over 25% of all marine life 😮

But guess what… deforestation happens underwater too 😓 Support to restore those underwater forests:

>> Project details
The increase of sea urchin populations and environmental stressors like marine heatwaves, El Niño events, coupled with the loss of natural predators like sea otters and sunflower sea stars are responsible for the severe decline in giant kelp forests off the coast of California. Volunteers partner with scientists to control the population of sea urchins by removing them. The funds will support volunteer training, monitoring supplies, and boat charters necessary for accessing remote reef locations.

🦦 Marine life: increased biodiversity, protection of habitat for sea otters, sea lions, fish, sea stars, gray whale (babies)

>> Who’s behind it
The Reef Check Foundation is dedicated to conserving tropical coral reefs and temperate kelp forests worldwide. They work with teams in over 40 countries and train + organize local volunteer citizen scientist divers to collect data on reef health used by marine resource managers, scientists, and policymakers to make ocean management and conservation decisions.

In 1996, RCF was created to help preserve the oceans and reefs which are critical to our survival, yet are being destroyed. In 1999 they released the results of the first global survey of coral reef health, revealing critical impacts from overfishing and pollution. What you read about ocean acidification and temperatures, they play a big part in spreading that knowledge.
