proxyAddresses is a multivalued attribute in Active Directory (AD) used on users, groups, and contacts to facilitate mail delivery.

To configure this attribute using PowerShell, you need the ActiveDirectory Module for PowerShell. This module is part of RSAT (Remote Server Administration Tools) which you need to activate (or download depending on your OS version). It’s available by default on domain controllers.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an authentication method in which a user is granted access only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of evidence (or factors) to an authentication mechanism.

Over time, a user may lose or replace an authenticator device or perhaps move to a new mobile phone number. This is likely to impact MFA and so prevent access to the user’s computer. A resultant change to MFA details is therefore required if the user is to continue to enjoy access. Individual users may manage their own MFA settings using the online portal at http://aka.ms/MFASetup. However, if this is not completed prior to decommissioning the old device, then administrator assistance will be required to reset the user’s MFA details.

We where already prepared to switch our servers from CentOS 7 to 8 but our project stopped immediately after we heard about the abrupt end of CentOS – so we where looking around for new solutions. We evaluated Ubuntu, OpenMandriva, Slackware, FreeBSD and other Linux/Unix distros. Before we made a descision in which direction we move, we waited for the first release of Rocky Linux 8. Rocky Linux was announced as the official unofficial successor of CentOS, the project was created by the founder of CentOS. Some weeks ago the first stable version compatible to CentOS 8 / RHEL 8 was released and we started our migration project from scratch - the results are in.

You can add custom scripts to the crontab on your QNAP NAS box. I'll use it to create a timestamp file in a directory that will be synchronized in real time to a off-site NAS. I'll check at the off-site NAS if the file is periodically updated to be sure the synchronization is working.
