School starts tomorrow—which means it’s time to slow down.

With buses picking up students, children biking and walking to school, and parents making drop-offs before work, our streets will be especially busy before and after school.

Drivers in Yarmouth: please be alert, obey posted school-zone speed limits, watch for children, yield to school buses and pedestrians, and allow extra time for your commute.

Let’s keep our students safe—please slow down and drive carefully.

Unfortunate but understandable news from Bluenose II.

Unfortunate but understandable news from Bluenose II.

We have unfortunately had to make the decision to cancel our trip to Yarmouth and head back to Lunenburg on Sept. 3 due to an incoming weather system.

Safety is our top priority and while we are sad to miss Yarmouth this year, we need to do what’s best and safest for the crew and ship.

Thank you for your understanding. 💙

🌎 YOU’RE INVITED — COMMUNITY CLIMATE INFORMATION SESSIONS

What are the biggest climate risks facing our communities—and what should we be thinking about for the future?

Residents are invited to attend one of two Community Climate Information and Engagement Sessions being held as part of our ongoing Climate Risk and Adaptation Planning Project with our federal partners.

📅 Tuesday, September 15, 2026
🕒 6:00–9:00 PM

📅 Wednesday, September 16, 2026
🕒 6:00–9:00 PM

📍 Yarmouth Fire Hall — Upstairs

Earlier this year, residents shared their experiences and concerns through our community climate survey. Since then, technical specialists have been working on climate risk assessments and local hazard and risk mapping.

Now we want to show you what we heard—and hear from you again.

At these sessions, you will be able to:

• See the results of the community climate survey

• Learn about our highest climate hazards and risks

• View local hazard and risk maps

• Learn how changing climate conditions could affect our communities

• Share your experiences and local knowledge

• Help validate the findings

• Help identify priorities for future climate adaptation planning

• Ask questions and speak with the project team

You do not need any technical background to participate. These sessions are for everyone.

Local knowledge matters. Technical studies can help tell us what could happen, but the people who live and work here can tell us what does happen.

Come See What We Heard.
Learn About Your Community’s Climate Risks.
Help Shape What Comes Next.

📅 September 15 and 16, 2026

Yarmouth Town Council Approves 2026-27 Operating Budget

Balanced budget maintains tax rates and core service levels

Wednesday, August 26, 2026 - Yarmouth, N.S. – Yarmouth Town Council has approved a balanced operating budget of $28,710,919 for the 2026-27 fiscal year, ending March 31, 2027. The budget includes $28,710,919 in both projected revenues and expenses. Municipal tax rates remain unchanged, with no increases to garbage or sewer rates.

Rising costs and inflation continue to affect Town departments and services. Staff are working to maintain reliable services while managing higher costs for materials, fuel, insurance and other essential operations within a balanced budget. Growth in the Town’s overall assessment base provided additional revenue this year to help offset those pressures, allowing Council to maintain residential and commercial tax rates at their current levels.
Several significant expenses are reflected in this year’s budget, including:

➡ Heating oil: $259,000; fuel: $177,760; and chemicals: $195,000
➡ Insurance: $521,824
➡ Education: an increase of 4.1% or $68,672 for a total of $1,741,224
➡ Policing: an increase of 13.79%, or $400,000 for a total of $3,300,000

“We are living in difficult and uncertain times. Council understands that residents and businesses are already feeling financial pressure, and has made holding the tax rate a priority. The Town is experiencing the same rise in costs and we have worked carefully to ensure continued reliable services, maintain our infrastructure and manage taxpayers’ dollars responsibly. This is our ‘stay-the-course' budget, focused on stability: continuing to move our community forward while recognizing that, right now, asking more from taxpayers is simply not where we want to be. We are in this together." - Mayor Pam Mood
