Microsoft is set to end support for Windows 10 next year (October 2025), but those who are not ready to update their OS to Windows 11 can pay to stay on the company's aging OS.

The Extended Security Update (ESU) program for consumers will be a one-year option available for $30, while businesses ESU license for businesses will cost $61 per device for one year, a price that will double every consecutive year for up to three years.

Those who buy the ESU for their Windows 10 PC will get critical and important security updates, but new features, bug fixes, and technical support will no longer be available.

Russian state-sponsored hackers have been sending out spear-phishing emails posing as Microsoft employees in an attempt to infiltrate over 100 organizations.

On Tuesday, Microsoft published a blog post to warn the public about the phishing emails, which have been sent to thousands of users and are still going out.

The Russian state-sponsored hacking group responsible launched a wave of email phishing attacks starting on Oct. 22 with the goal of gathering intelligence from individuals in government, academia, defense, non-governmental organizations, and other sectors. Users in dozens of countries have been targeted, particularly in the UK, Europe, Australia, and Japan.

The hackers have been trying to trick targets into opening malicious attachments in emails to install a remote desktop configuration file. Launching the configuration file can cause the victim’s computer to connect to a hacker-controlled server, giving the Russian cyberspies a foothold in the machine or allow the hackers to install additional malware, including in the AutoStart folders, to maintain a presence on the computer even when the remote desktop protocol session is closed.

Android users, listen up! Cybercriminals are now using an updated version of Android malware, dubbed "FakeCall," to take over phone dialers and intercept calls made to banks, according to a report from mobile security platform Zimperium.

Kaspersky first reported the malware in 2022. It mimicked banking apps and let users make calls through them. The attackers overlaid the bank's actual number on victims' screens and impersonated bank employees to make the calls more believable to extract sensitive information.

The updated version of the malware takes things further. "The attack typically begins when victims download an APK file onto an Android mobile device through a phishing attack," malware researcher Fernando Ortega explains. Users will be unaware of the takeover until they uninstall the malicious app, he adds.

During installation, it asks the user to set itself as the default calling app. Once permitted, the malware gains significant control via Android's accessibility service and oversees all incoming and outgoing calls. If a user tries to call the bank, it reroutes the call to the attacker's number.

Today Oct 31 2024 marks 5 years of providing customer service to the great folks of western New Brunswick along the Saint John River Valley from Nackawic to Grand Falls.

Starting a new business is scary enough. Doing so thru the recent times and challenges we all faced was all credited to my faith in God to provide, and community support from great people who trusted me with their tech issues.

So Thank you to all my customers. I have learned so much as our tech world constantly changes and updates. Thank you also to a few students who have spent time here gaining experience.

Be safe online and have a great day !!!! B
