She’s finally done. ❤️

What started as curiosity turned into a full-blown rabbit hole into the world of Irish crochet.

Along the way, I learned about a craft that helped women earn an income and support their families at a time when financial independence wasn’t something many women had access to. I also found myself diving into my own family history and the stories that connect us to the past.

This sweater became so much more than a crochet project. Every motif, every length of cord, and every stitch represents hours spent learning, experimenting, and appreciating the women who came before us.

It’s one of my favourite pieces I’ve ever made. Not just because of how it turned out, but because of the history woven into it.

So I’ve been experimenting with Irish lace crochet for the past couple months and wow… this has been a journey. 😂

Most of the modern resources are Russian, so I’ve basically been surviving off YouTube tutorials, auto-translated patterns, and pure determination. Then I fell down the rabbit hole of early 1900s motif patterns and those are a whole different level of chaos.

Obsessed though? Absolutely.

I finally worked up the courage to try the mesh infill and I’m kind of in love with how this panel turned out. It’s messy, intricate, weirdly meditative, and feels like learning an entirely different language of crochet.

It’s been about a month since I started this cardigan and I sure am glad to have it off my hook!

It’s beautiful and I love it but I get bored and want to move onto the next project 😅

Hmm… what next? 🤔

Weaving in ends is the worst part of any project…

I will let an almost finished project sit on the pile for months just to avoid weaving in those ends. There’s resistance, it’s tedious and dammit, my fingers hurt!

One day I’ll walk by the pile again and realize just how much those ends are truly bothering me. In that moment, weaving in ends becomes cathartic and satisfying. Tying up the mess in a way that looks finished and polished becomes meditative and based in self/garment improvement. The goal becomes finishing the project so you can truly enjoy it rather than a grudging task done.

Take a step back, take it all in. Breathe… 1, 2…. And let that s**t go!

Do the hard stuff, weave in your ends 🥸
