PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS FORMULAS FOR 2023 - The CRA has announced the Payroll Deductions Formulas - 117th Edition Effective January 1, 2023. Available now on the CRA website, the guide reflects some income tax changes recently announced which, if enacted as proposed, would be effective January 1, 2023. Federal and provincial/territorial indexation amounts are provided, along with other changes for each region.

CanPay's eNETEmployer and GrandMaster payroll software products will incorporate these changes for your first payroll calculation in 2023. Watch this page for a mid-December announcement when these tax changes are officially added to your CanPay payroll product.

Saint John, N.B. to pilot 4-day work week - Another New Brunswick municipality has elected to nix the traditional five-day work week for most employees. The City of Saint John has announced it will implement a four-day compressed work week, where workers are on the job for extended hours from Monday to Thursday and, in return, have Friday off.

Starting on Oct. 17, the city will close municipal offices from Friday to Sunday. The shortened week will not apply to essential services.

New Enhancements to Protect Foreign Workers - On September 26, 2022, new legislation will come into force to enhance protections for foreign workers. These regulatory amendments will impact both the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and the International Mobility Program. Their aim is to improve employer compliance by addressing gaps in the current worker protection regime, ensure access to information on employment rights, provide access to healthcare for foreign workers, and increase accountability for non-compliance.
