SCAM ALERT

There is a new phone scam going around (I got three calls today) where they say your Internet Account has been compromised and press 1 to connect to tech support or else you'll be disconnected.

THIS IS A SCAM: Do not press one, do not talk to them and do not let them on to your PC.

Please share and spread the word. I've attached a picture of a cute dog to ensure people see and share this message.

Scams like this often ramp up over the holidays but they are always around no matter what time of year it is so don't let your guard down once the holidays are over.

And the scams are becoming more sophisticated.

This month Microsoft has made changes to the Windows 10 upgrade program, changing it from free and optional to free and automatic. That means that one day soon you'll find Windows 10 has installed itself via Windows Update.

Don't Panic

Windows 10 isn't bad and it really isn't all that different from Windows 7, so if the upgrade comes through by itself it isn't the end of the world.

Play It Safe

I recommend that people be proactive about the upgrade, either starting it themselves so that it does the upgrade at a convenient time, or to schedule something with me so that I can do the upgrade for you to ensure things go smoothly.

Upgrade While You Upgrade

I also recommend people combine going to Windows 10 with a hardware upgrade to replace their slow Hard Drive with a super-fast Solid State Drive (SSD). SSDs have seen a recent drop in price making them an excellent bang-for-the-buck upgrade and a spectacular way to breathe new life into an aging desktop or laptop with prices starting at just $129.99 for a 240GB SSD.
