Tech Fact Friday- Creeper and Reaper

In 1971, A programmer at BBN Technologies named Bob Thomas developed the "Creeper" a computer virus to test the security of ARPANET, an early precursor to the internet. The self-replicating version of Creeper is known as the first computer worm. Creeper was a test created to demonstrate the possibility of a self-replicating computer program that could spread to other computers.

The programs was not created as malicious software, it caused no damage to the computer, the only effect being a message it flashed on the screen: "I'M THE CREEPER: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN"

In 1972 Ray Tomlinson created Reaper, the firs anti-virus software, designed to delete Creeper by moving across ARPANET.

Tech Fact Friday- ARPANET

ARPANET, invented in 1969, was the world’s first operational packet-switching network and the foundation of today’s internet. The name stands for Advanced Research Projects Agency Network, reflecting its origins within the U.S. Department of Defense’s ARPA (now DARPA). It was developed by researchers including Leonard Kleinrock, Vinton Cerf, Robert Kahn, and others working with ARPA to create a resilient communication system. ARPANET was designed to connect university and government computers, allowing researchers to share data and computing power efficiently, even if parts of the network were disrupted an innovation that ultimately transformed how information is shared worldwide.

Level up your Digital Life: A 2026 Tech New Year's Resolutions

This year don't just "use technology," use it smarter.
Start with the basics that protect your future self:
- Update your passwords (or better yet, get a password manager)
- Turn on multi-factor authentication
- Automate backups
- Clean out apps/subscriptions that drain your time or money.
Think of it as a digital reset; less clutter, more security, and fewer distractions.
Your devices should work for you, not the other way around.

Use Technology to build a better life, not a busier one.

In 2026, make a goal to actually learn the tools that are shaping the world
- A.I.
- Automation
- Smart Devices
Learn to use them with intention. Use AI assistants to save time, not replace thinking.
Set boundaries around notifications, social scrolling, and screen time, so your focus becomes your superpower again.
The best tech resolution isn't "more tech"... it's better tech habits + more control + more peace.

How will you use tech to better your 2026?
