At Niricson, our remote teammates finally met in person this month. We had the opportunity to learn more about the work our talented Engineering Team does. (From left to right) Bryce, Dan, Josh, and Simon toured us around the lab in Victoria.

Meet Bryce Dombrowski, our skilled mechatronics engineer who joined Niricson in February 2022. With a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and specialization in Mechatronics from the University of Victoria, Bryce excels in PLC development, product testing, and software automation. Off-duty, Bryce enjoys lindy hop dancing, hiking, and rock climbing. 💃🏔️🧗‍♂️

Daniel Albu is our automation and positioning systems lead. Daniel has a Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a specialization in mechatronics from the University of Victoria. He brings expertise in software development and control system design to bring acoustic payloads to life. Daniel's exceptional problem-solving skills and meticulous approach consistently yields outstanding results. In his free time, he enjoys rebuilding his motorcycle and learning Spanish. 🏍️🔧

Josh Columbus, our brilliant Acoustic Technology Lead, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. When he's not immersed in cutting-edge technology, Josh enjoys thrilling canoe trips, trail running, and playing ultimate frisbee. 🚣‍♂️🏃‍♂️🥏

Simon, a valuable member of our Engineering team, holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Victoria, specializing in Sensor Integration as a Mechatronics Engineer. Since joining us in October 2020, Simon has made significant contributions to our innovative projects. Outside of work, he finds joy in kiteboarding, surfing, fishing, and expresses his creativity through playing the piano. 🌟💻🎹

We missed Sujith Mathew, another key member of our Engineering team who was away on a project in New Zealand. We're proud of the diverse talents and incredible passion that drive our team forward, making infrastructure safer.

Our team is continuously working to enhance our technology. Killian Stacey and Joshua Columbus are training our machine learning model in such a way that it can detect delamination with a high degree of accuracy, not just in lab conditions but also real site environments We are training our model on different kinds of acoustic signals and subjecting them to interfering noises (for e.g. , wind, speech, vehicles, mechanical noise from the hammer/ncx etc.) to make sure it performs properly in all types of situations.

Meet Ryan, our Business Development and Strategic Partnerships lead. He is a geoscientist with over 15 years of experience in hazard analysis, GIS & remote sensing, UAS mapping, 3D data visualization, and photogrammetry. He has developed new work, managed large field campaigns of technical experts, and handled complex geospatial databases for domestic and international projects.

He has helped Niricson win multi-year contracts in the energy and critical infrastructure space, serving clients from local water companies to national energy utilities. He is passionate about sharing the latest tech solutions with potential clients and empowering them to innovate and embrace new technology for proactive asset management. He understands the priorities, limitations, and workflow of our potential clients and finds ways to educate, introduce, and apply our innovation to their current workflow.

As a Head of Strategic Partnership, he connects engineers, regulators, scientists, and the public. He works with regulators and utility owners in the utility and energy sectors, including U.S. and international agencies, public utilities, and energy companies. He loves talking about new technology and solving real-world problems.

He also loves to stay active and spend time with his family, running or biking around town with them, or traveling with them to lesser known areas of the world.

Our proprietary Acoustic Data collection technology improves upon the traditional ‘hammer sounding test’ by detecting and creating a geo-referenced map of delamination in the concrete, which can be tracked through time. By making physical contact with the structure and sending a stress wave into the concrete, our sensor records the acoustic signature and accurately detects delamination.

Furthermore, this technology can be equipped with an unmanned aerial vehicle or can be carried by hand, depending on the ease of accessibility to the site, enabling asset owners and engineering consultants to make informed decisions on repairs and maintenance. We're proud to be at the forefront of innovation in the field of acoustic engineering, and we're excited to see how this technology will continue to transform the industry.
