Elegant and affordable website building tools for visual artists, artisans, craftspe

www.ArtSites.ca started when a family friend asked us to create a simple, yet elegant, artist website. She wanted a website that was simple, focused on her artwork, easily updated, and affordable. We created a website for her and soon received several requests from her fellow artists. Their needs were similar and we realized that if we could provide a simple, automated tool at a reasonable price,

other artists might find this helpful as well. So, ArtSites.ca was created and continues to grow as we gather more feedback from artists using our tools.

ARTSITES PORTRAIT
Mike Leavy

"I was born in England, spent years in Toronto, and live in beautiful Victoria on Vancouver Island.

After many years in information technology, I switched on my artistic side and took up painting. I’ve studied with luminaries such as David Goatley, James Gordaneer, Nicholas Pearce and Victor Arcega, and now enjoy painting people and places in oils and acrylics.

I’m an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and have exhibited in their juried shows. I also paint regularly with the Goward House Portrait Painters Group.

My paintings are in private collections in Victoria, Alberta, Ontario and the United Kingdom, and all over my house."

New ArtSites Layout: Filmstrip

Over the last little while we have been working a new layout for ArtSites websites. We have called it "Filmstrip" because one of it's primary characteristics is the use of horizontal navigation of images as if they were all being viewed on a 35mm filmstrip. This layout tries to maximize image sizes on the screen, regardless of the device being viewed on. We have tried to reduce the non-image elements of the website as much as possible, mainly by the use of a "hamburger" icon to provide access to a menu and keeping the header elements as compact as we could.

This layout is still in what we would call an Experimental stage. We have made it available for our Artists to use on their own websites but be warned that there may be some small changes to its layout and features over the next few weeks or even months. If you would just like to see a working example of this new layout, you can have a look at this sample website: http://Filmstrip.ArtSites.ca

Please let us know if you see any issues with the website or have any suggestions. We are particularly interested in what people think of alignment, spacing and colour of elements on the website.

ARTSITES PORTRAIT
Lucille Weber Artist

"Lucille can vividly recall her first experience with painting, when she was just eight years old and living with her family of ten in rural Bruce County. Lucille discovered her Great Aunt Irene's paints in the attic but was dismayed to find the lids fused shut from years of neglect. Lucille, always a resourceful little girl, used a screwdriver to poke holes in the tubes to release the pigment; she was delighted with her success and the result was her very first masterpiece which hangs in her studio today as a reminder of her creative roots.

Lucille's early exposure to the raw shapes, textures and colours of the landscape where she grew up helped nurture her artistic develpment, giving her the "eye" she now uses to view and fully absorb the elements she will apply to her next creations. She would attribute this intense connection to nature as the main source of her inspiration, along with everyday experiences and extraordinary events.

Lucille encourages observers to view her work through their own eyes, without preconceptions; she loves to hear what others see in her paintings. Lucille intentionally prefers not to define her artwork and appreciates that everyone is entitled to their own personal interpretation."
