TELUS Digital has confirmed a cybersecurity breach after threat actors claimed to have stolen nearly 1 petabyte of data, potentially impacting multiple companies that rely on the company for outsourced customer support and operational services.

Nearly 1 petabyte of data... what does that actually mean?

To put it into perspective, 1 petabyte equals about 1,000 terabytes of information. That could represent billions of documents, call records, customer support tickets, authentication logs, and internal business data.

Because TELUS Digital operates as a Business Process Outsourcing ( ) provider, many organizations rely on their infrastructure for services such as customer support operations, billing systems, AI moderation tools, and internal platforms.

Instead of breaching dozens of businesses individually, attackers may attempt to access a single provider that connects to many organizations at once.

According to reports, the attackers allegedly gained access using cloud credentials discovered in another breach, then pivoted across multiple systems to extract large volumes of data.

Canadian business process outsourcing giant Telus Digital has confirmed it suffered a security incident after threat actors claimed to have stolen nearly 1 petabyte of data from the company in a multi-month breach.
