You've probably already heard but...

This morning, the Bank of Canada announced a significant reduction in its target for the overnight rate to 4.5%, with the Bank Rate at 4.75% and the deposit rate at 4.5%.

With the Bank of Canada’s rate decrease, we’ve updated our system to reflect these changes. At Mortgage Atlas, the internal prime lending rate is adjusted accordingly. Variable, Adjustable, and HELOC rates are pinned to the BOC rate in Atlas, just like in real life, so the net rate will be adjusted to match. 💡

Here are the key highlights:

New Interest Rates:
- Overnight Rate: 4.5%
- Bank Rate: 4.75%
- Deposit Rate: 4.5%
- Prime Lending Rate: 6.70%

Economic Context:
- The global economy is expected to grow at about 3% annually through 2026.
- Inflation is forecasted to gradually ease across most advanced economies.
US inflation is on a downward trend, while the euro area's growth is rebounding.
- China's economy is growing modestly.

Canadian Economy:
- Economic growth picked up to about 1.5% in the first half of the year.
- The unemployment rate has risen to 6.4%, with slower employment growth.
- GDP growth is forecasted to be 1.2% in 2024, 2.1% in 2025, and 2.4% in 2026.
- CPI inflation moderated to 2.7% in June.
Inflation is expected to move closer to the 2% target next year.

Happy Friday!

The first major piece of feedback we got with Atlas was that we needed more lenders. Specifically, lenders that are lesser known or have unique policies.

That's why we spent the week pushing out 3 new lenders to add to the mix: Coast Capital, BlueShore, and Manulife!

Atlas now supports (most) programs for the following 7 lenders:

âś… TD Canada Trust
âś… First National
âś… MCAP
âś… Coast Capital Savings Credit Union (New)
âś… BlueShore Savings Credit Union (New)
âś… Manulife Bank (New)

With a second round of Beta user getting access on Monday, we're looking forward to hearing the next round of feedback (and bugs)!
