Metro Vancouver is constructing a new water main in Coquitlam to meet the growing demand for drinking water in the region. The Coquitlam Water Main is approximately 12 kilometres long, and varies between 2.2 and 3.5 metres in diameter. It will be constructed between the north end of Pipeline Road and Mariner Way at Riverview Crescent.

Construction of the Coquitlam Water Main is divided into four sections:

Robson to Guildford Section from 2023 to 2026.
Cape Horn from 2026 to 2032.
Pipeline Road North from early 2027 to 2035.
City Centre Tunnel from 2027 to 2034.

To reduce disruptions, approximately two of the 12 kilometres of the water main will be tunnelled under Coquitlam’s downtown core, between Guildford Way and Dewdney Trunk Road.

Once all sections of the Coquitlam Water Main are constructed, Metro Vancouver will connect the new water main to the existing drinking water system.

Construction is ongoing on the Coquitlam Water Main, a new 12-kilometre water main to meet the growing demand for drinking water in the region. 💧

You may notice construction activity and temporary impacts along Pipeline Road. Crews are working hard to minimize disruptions and keep people moving safely. If you have questions, our community liaison is here to help.

Beginning on July 6, Metro Vancouver will be making adjustments to the water system, returning the direction of flow in some water mains after it was reversed to support work on the new Stanley Park Water Supply Tunnel. This may result in cloudiness in the water for some Delta residents, primarily in Ladner.

The water is safe to drink, and will clear on its own in a few days. Metro Vancouver is continuing to monitor water quality through enhanced sampling and testing throughout this adjustment.

For more information, contact Metro Vancouver by email at [email protected] or call 604-432-6200.
