"Smoke and flames fill the street as a motorcyclist cuts through the chaos, waving a Mexican flag while a car burns beside him on Atlantic Boulevard in Compton, directly facing a line of armed sheriff’s deputies. Hours earlier, on June 7, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents had detained multiple people at a nearby Home Depot, igniting protests that rapidly spread across the city. As unrest intensified, officials imposed a citywide curfew, and the confrontation marked the beginning of a week-long series of clashes between thousands of demonstrators and ICE agents, the LAPD, and the National Guard. It unfolded against a broader backdrop of fear and upheaval as immigration raids and detentions continued to impact communities nationwide." – Barbara Davidson
