He came to us with a gap on his resume.

Two years.

He didn't try to hide it. Didn't dress it up with freelance projects or consulting work that wasn't really consulting work.

He just said
"I took care of my mother. She passed last spring. And now I'm ready to go back."

That was it.

No apology. No over-explanation. Just the truth of where he'd been and a quiet readiness for what came next.

We didn't ask him to reframe it. We didn't suggest better language for his LinkedIn headline.

We just said, "Tell us about the work you loved before you left."
His whole voice changed.

Something is shifting in hiring right now.

And it's quiet. But it's real.

For the past few years the conversation was all about speed. Fill the role fast. Move the pipeline. Close the req.

Candidates felt it. Hiring managers felt it. Even the recruiters running the process felt it.

Everyone was moving. Nobody was really connecting.

But something is changing.

We're seeing it in the conversations we're having. With clients who are slowing down their process not because they have to but because they've learned what rushing costs them.

With candidates who are asking better questions. Not just about salary and title but about culture, growth, and whether the team actually likes showing up on Mondays.

With hiring managers who are pushing back on their own briefs. Saying, maybe the must-haves aren't all must-haves. Maybe we've been filtering out exactly the kind of thinking we need most.

Joining us as our Practice Director, Kunal brings a powerful mix of leadership, resilience, and real-world perspective. Guided by his belief to “know your worth and appreciate your efforts,” he leads with confidence, authenticity, and an appreciation for the journey behind every success.

Before building his career in recruitment, Kunal was actually immersed in a very different world, the culinary world 🍳 In fact, he once owned and operated his own restaurant, turning his passion for cooking into a business long before stepping into talent and leadership. It’s a part of his story that speaks volumes about his entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to take bold chances.

And speaking of bold moves, one of Kunal’s proudest personal milestones was taking a leap of faith and moving to Kelowna. 🏔️

When it comes to his daily routine, you won’t catch Kunal with coffee or tea… he’s all about the protein shake lifestyle 💪 His comfort meal? Rajma Chawal, all the way, simple, classic, and impossible to beat.

He did everything right.

Updated his resume. Tailored every cover letter. Researched every company before every interview.

He followed up politely. He sent thank you notes. He did the thing where you connect with the interviewer on LinkedIn right after, but not too soon.

He played the game perfectly.

For eight months.

And heard nothing back that meant anything.

A few "we'll keep your resume on file." A few ghosted follow ups. A few roles that were mysteriously "no longer available" the day after his final round.

He wasn't unqualified. He wasn't unrealistic. He wasn't doing anything wrong.

He was just invisible.

And nobody in the process had stopped long enough to tell him why.

That's the part that breaks people. Not the rejection. The silence.

When he came to us he wasn't desperate. He was done.

Done performing for processes that were never designed to see him.

So we did something radical.

We actually looked.

At what he'd built. At where he'd been underestimated. At what he was capable of that no resume format could ever capture.

Then we made some calls.

Not applications. Calls.

To people who trusted our judgment because we'd never wasted it before.

He had three conversations in two weeks. One offer in three.

Same person. Same experience. Completely different outcome.
