Extreme Cold Warning Issued for Toronto and GTA

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Toronto and the GTA, with wind chill values expected to plunge to -30 to -35.

An Arctic air mass is gripping Ontario, bringing bitter cold and powerful lake-effect snow squalls. Southern Ontario areas, including Hamilton, Windsor, and Barrie, are under extreme cold warnings, with daytime highs in the minus teens and wind chills near -30.

Toronto’s forecasted high of -12°C today marks the coldest since January 2019, dropping to -20°C by nightfall, feeling like -30°C. Snow accumulation could exceed 40 cm in regions like Bracebridge and Owen Sound.

Frostbite Risk
Frostbite can occur in 30 minutes when wind chills reach -15°C. Residents are urged to dress warmly, protect exposed skin, and limit outdoor exposure.

The cold snap is expected to ease Wednesday afternoon, with milder air anticipated in February.
