StockPick Creator & Investor Nik Sismanis shares his analysis of Microsoft (MSFT) after Q4 results - here's what he thinks:

📍Microsoft remains a strong buy & growth remains high

📍The company continues to integrate AI capabilities within the Azure ecosystem. While shares have declined modestly over the past few days, shares are up already ±36.8% YTD

📍Revenue growth in cloud services up ±21-23% to $30.3B

📍Competition is heating up with Google Cloud with Amazon Web Services. But with Microsoft's stake in OpenAI combined with their own AI capabilities, growth has been somewhat revitalized.

📍Microsoft's OpenAI service traction is quite impressive: it already counts ±11,000 leading firms that have signed up, including renowned names like IKEA and Volvo. As they are already MSFT customers, their CAC is low.

📍Despite the impressive growth, Microsoft's valuation is quite high. Shares are trading at ±30X next year's projected earnings, a very expensive multiple given where interest rates currently are.

The U.S. Federal Reserve just held interest rates steady after hiking ten times since March 2022 📈

The central bank has been raising borrowing costs to tame out of control inflation, but decided to take a break at this meeting to assess the impact of the hikes on the U.S. economy 🙌🏻

As expected, the Fed signalled further rate increases are firmly on the table.

In a surprise to investors, central bank officials said they see two more 25 basis point hikes this year, markets were pricing in just one 💸

Still, in a press conference after the decision Fed Chair Jerome Powell said nothing had been decided about July’s meeting, calling it ‘live’, and expressed that various factors are showing the fight against inflation is making progress 📊

U.S. inflation slowed down in May to its lowest level in more than 2 years.

It supports Wall Street’s view that the Federal Reserve will press pause on raising interest rates at its policy decision tomorrow, before coming back with another hike in July.

The Fed has raised rates 10 times since embarking on its plan to combat out of control inflation in March 2022 📈

Still, you may not feel price pressures easing, especially at the grocery store. Food prices are rising a slightly slower rate than they were a fews month ago, but remain much higher than before the pandemic 🤔

They’ve jumped 6.7% over the past year, while all items rose just 4% 📊

Saudi Arabia is going it alone in an effort to halt a slide in oil prices ⬇️

The defacto leader of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) volunteered to slash oil production by another million barrels per day at the cartel’s latest meeting. It’s the only producer to make that pledge.

That adds to already planned OPEC+ cuts slated for the rest of the year.

The unilateral action sent oil prices higher as Saudi energy minister Abdulaziz bin Salman said the cartel would do “whatever it is necessary to bring stability to this market.”

Some analysts see the move as a way to create cohesion in a frayed organization, while others see it as a failure to bring members together 🤝

Analysts expect global oil demand, and prices, to rise in the second half of the year, but concerns over a potential recession make the outlook uncertain 📊

Vice Media, a renowned youth-targeted media brand, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the Southern District of New York, with assets and liabilities ranging from $500 million to $1 billion 🤔

Lenders including Fortress Investment Group, Soros Fund Management, and Monroe Capital have agreed to a $225 million credit bid for Vice's assets and liabilities, and a $20 million cash infusion to keep the business afloat 📊

While Vice's content was often impactful and critically acclaimed, it struggled to achieve profitability as it pursued rapid growth under its gonzo chief, Smith 💸

The Vice also was beset by poor management and warring owners, allegations of sexual harassment, layers of debt, ambitious but scuttled plans to go public, and more than a year of searching for a new owner.

The Brooklyn-based company has laid off around 100 staff in recent months and stopped production of "Vice News Tonight," their flagship news show.

Many companies and investors had for Vice's growth, with TPG, a private equity firm, losing a significant $450 million investment from 2017.

James Murdoch and Disney also invested in Vice, with Disney having written down more than $500 million on its Vice investments 🙌🏻

Despite the company's struggles, cofounder Shane Smith reportedly made $100 million from Vice, earning a salary of $1.6 million as the company's executive chairman as of his 2022 divorce agreement 👀

Stock exchanges are places where people buy and sell shares of stock. Companies agree to list their shares for trade on the stock exchanges they choose, and members of each exchange are allowed to trade the stocks listed there 📲

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq Stock Market are the two largest in the U.S.

The NYSE is also the largest in the world by market cap, and has 3,000+ listed stocks. The NASDAQ has a smaller market cap, and has about 3,300 listed stocks 📈

The NYSE is an auction market, and the NASDAQ is a dealer market, but there are other types of exchanges, too. More on both below.

📍 Auction markets: NYSE
In auction markets, buyers and sellers are matched, like the NYSE before a trade is facilitated.

The highest bidding price is paired with the lowest asking price to make a match.

📍 Dealer markets: NASDAQ
Dealer markets, such as the Nasdaq, work by having dealers use their own money to facilitate transactions, which increases market liquidity.

📍 ОТС Exchanges
Over-the-counter markets are where securities that are not listed on major exchanges such as NYSE or Nasdaq can be traded.

The world's best-known investors tend to take a disciplined, long-term approach to investing 💸

When stocks in their portfolio are down, they don’t sell immediately. Instead, they look at the bigger picture, and they tend to stick to their investment thesis ✔️

Across the board, great investor’s use a methodical, reasonable approach when employing the following behaviors:

1. They stay patient: great investors know that the market can be volatile. As such, they’re willing to ride out fluctuations and hold their positions to wait for a stock to recover over time 🙌🏻

2. Review their investment thesis for a particular stock: When a stock is down, an investor may take a closer look at the company's financials, management team, and competitive landscape.

This helps to validate their rationale for investing in the company in the first place 😉

3. Buy more shares at a lower price: What if an investor believes in the potential of a company during a downturn?

In this case, they may “average down” - meaning they buy more shares at a lower price, thus lowering their average cost per share 👌🏻

3. Cut their losses: If a great investor believes that a company's fundamentals have changed or that the stock is unlikely to recover, they may cut their losses and sell their positions to minimize their losses 💁🏼‍♀️
