Anthropic just raised the bar again with Claude Opus 5.5.

The new model is the first release in Anthropic’s Claude 5.5 family and is designed for demanding coding, agentic workflows, computer use and professional knowledge work.
According to Anthropic, Opus 5.5 performs at the level of Claude Fable 5.1 on most work while costing 40% less to run than Opus 5. It also generates output more than 30% faster, with input and output pricing reduced to $4 and $20 per million tokens.

What stands out is the focus on long-running work. Anthropic says early testers used Opus 5.5 for large codebase migrations, software optimization, research and complex business workflows. The model also comes with stronger safeguards and improved resistance to prompt injection.
And the competition is getting even more interesting. Anthropic’s own benchmarks show Opus 5.5 ahead of GPT-6 Astra on several coding and knowledge-work benchmarks, while Astra leads on some others such as scientific research and AutomationBench.

The AI race is no longer just about smarter models. It’s increasingly about how much real work they can complete, how reliably they can do it and how efficiently they can run.
