Getting caught at my own game.
⤵️
In my day to day I help other stay secure online amongst many other digital practices.
Woke up this morning to someone accessing my Walmart account overnight and ordering 2x GoPros 📹
-
What did I do wrong - well many things -
1️⃣ Stored CC online vice a PayPal account (PayPal does provide another layer of security)
2️⃣ Walmart account not protected with a multifactor authentication.
(Ie SMS or Multifactor application.
3️⃣ Password was a older password that was not changed in a few years.
-
How I am ensuring this won’t happen again.
1️⃣ reviewing all other application where I use this password. To do this I use a password manager; many out there.
*(I use bitwarden, but many other out there, Last Pass, Samsung Pass, Apple Keychain, Chrome password) *
2️⃣ identified all of the one I was still using and changed them.
3️⃣ Mutli factor was not enabled (bad on me) - now enabled it. if it happens again ill get a text with a 6 digit code.
4️⃣ remove my credit card from walmart and linked a paypal account. paypal is more secure as it provide a additional layer.
5️⃣ then I changed the password along with the other application I was using and made it the longest possible with Bitwarden.
