FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - May 4, 2026 ⛽

Library borrowing prices hold steady at zero amid ongoing cost pressures and funding concerns. Officials confirm unlimited books, programs, services, and much more remain available to the public at no charge, with no increase expected.

For years, CBRL has kept our engines running, powered by our dedicated and creative team. But even the most efficient engine needs to refuel.

Today, rising costs and stagnant funding mean our "tank" isn’t being filled the way it once was. In fact, core funding has only increased by about 6% (roughly $170,000) since 2009, while the road has only gotten longer and more demanding. We’ve kept going thanks to strong advocacy and the support of our community, but we can’t run on empty.

Help keep the library moving.

If you value what CBRL brings to our community, consider making a donation, sharing this message, or speaking up in support. Every contribution helps fuel the journey and lets us go further, together. Donate now: https://cbrl.ca/books-beyond/
