A faster close doesn’t always mean the problem is fixed.
When MTTR improves, it’s easy to see it as progress. But there’s another question worth asking:
Are the same incidents still coming back?
A team can become faster at resolving recurring incidents without actually reducing recurrence.
Try looking at your top 10 incident types and compare:
Close Time ↔ Recurrence Rate
The results may reveal a very different picture of operational performance.
Because sometimes the goal shouldn’t be to close the next ticket faster.
It should be to prevent the next ticket from happening.
What does your organization focus on more — resolution speed or recurrence?
