Release Notes for Version Update
This release introduces several key enhancements and new features designed to provide deeper insights and more efficient data handling. Below are the detailed notes on these improvements:
1. New Data Types Introduced
Visible Minority:
Description: Provides insights into the total visible minority population in private households.
Generation Status:
Description: Offers data on the total generation status for the population in private households.
Number of Rooms:
Description: Shows the total occupied private dwellings categorized by the number of rooms.
Employment Rate:
Description: Highlights the employment and unemployment rates.
Time Leaving for Work:
Description: Captures the time employees leave for work, specifically targeting the labor force aged 15 years and over with a usual place of work or no fixed workplace address
Total Commute Time:
Description: Focuses on the commuting duration for the employed labor force aged 15 years and over with a usual place of work or no fixed workplace address.
2. Data Representation and Backend Process Enhancements
Polygon Representation Change: Polygons are now represented using decimal notation to improve accuracy and data manipulation.
Data Element Visibility Improvement: Now, data elements show values greater than zero. Previously, values greater than zero were omitted for certain data types, limiting the depth of insights. This update ensures a more comprehensive data representation.
Indexing for Faster Read Times: Introduction of indexes to enhance data retrieval times, significantly improving performance during data reads.
Store Procedure Changes for Optimized Performance
Common Table Expression (CTE) Integration: By using CTEs, we've minimized redundant calculations by calculating the distance once per row. This change is applied in both filtering and ordering processes, eliminating the need to calculate STDistance twice and thus improving query performance.
Efficient Geography Point Creation: The creation of geography points from latitude and longitude parameters has been optimized. This method is now more efficient and leverages SQL Server's spatial capabilities effectively, ensuring better performance in spatial data handling.
These enhancements reflect our commitment to leveraging the latest census data to provide our users with accurate, comprehensive, and user-friendly data analysis tools.
