Slow computer? Here's what it usually looks like under the hood.

That's a hard drive struggling to keep up. When the queue backs up like this, everything waits: startup, opening programs, even clicking the Start menu.

The fix is an SSD Speed Upgrade. $449 all-in: 500GB SSD, everything moved over exactly as it was, old drive returned to you, 12-month warranty. Faster or your money back.

Walk in Mon–Fri 11am–5pm for a Free First Look, or text a photo of the problem to 780-994-6203.

Does your computer shut itself off out of nowhere — especially when you're in the middle of something important? 😤

It feels alarming, but a lot of the time the cause is something small and simple. We recently looked at a desktop that kept shutting down during use. Opened it up and found that a small fan had come loose inside — without it doing its job, the computer was getting too hot and turning itself off to prevent damage. Snapped it back in place, and that was that. No new parts needed.

That's why we always diagnose first before recommending anything. We put it on the bench, figure out what's actually going on, then call you with honest options — including the option that it's not worth fixing. No pressure. No surprise charges.

Free triage. Walk-ins welcome Mon–Fri 11am–5pm. Calls and texts taken 11am–11pm daily.

Has your laptop ever just... refused to start? It gets stuck on a blue screen or keeps looping through 'Preparing Automatic Repair' — over and over, never actually loading. 😔

If that's happening to you (or someone you know), it almost always points to the hard drive starting to fail. The longer it loops, the more risk there is to the photos, files, and documents stored on it.

This is one of the most common things we see at Computer Wall — and the good news is, we can usually recover the files AND get the machine running again. But time matters.

Here's how we work: bring it in for a FREE look. We'll tell you what we think before you spend a cent.

No surprise bills. No pressure. 90-day guarantee on every repair we do.

We live here, we work here, and we built Computer Wall because people in Stony Plain and Spruce Grove deserve an honest shop that actually explains what's wrong.

Sometimes the most honest thing we can say is: your computer isn't worth fixing. 💔 But here's the part that actually matters — your files don't have to be lost. Your photos. Your tax documents. Your kid's school projects. We can get those out safely, even when the machine itself is done. This laptop came in too damaged to repair safely. So instead of charging you for a fix that wasn't in the cards, we did a careful data recovery — and the files went home with the owner. That's it. No runaround, no surprise bill, just straight answers. If you've got a laptop or computer sitting in a drawer because it won't turn on, don't assume your files are gone. Bring it in — free triage, no charge to take a look. We'll tell you exactly what's possible. 📍 Computer Wall — 5019 47 Ave, Stony Plain, AB 📞 Call or text: 780-994-6203 🌐 computer-wall.com Walk-ins: Mon–Fri 11am–5pm | Calls & texts: 11am–11pm daily. Not everything needs a repair. Sometimes you just need someone to show you how. 💬

At Computer Wall, our Learning Center is a completely separate service from repairs — designed for people who just have questions. Maybe you got a new laptop and don't know where to start. Maybe you keep accidentally closing the wrong window. Maybe you just want to understand what's going on with your own computer without feeling lost.

We'll sit with you. Go at your pace. Explain things in plain English. No judgment, no rushing, no making you feel bad for not knowing something — because honestly, nobody taught most of us this stuff.

We're the Donnelly family, and we've been helping people in Stony Plain and Spruce Grove feel more confident with their computers for over a decade. That's not going to change.

🚨 SCAM ALERT — Canadians are getting fake CRA texts and calls right now.

The Canada Revenue Agency has warned Canadians about a wave of scams impersonating the CRA by phone, text, and email. With tax season wrapping up, scammers know people are thinking about refunds — and they're taking advantage of that.

Here's exactly what these scams look like:

📱 A text saying your CRA account has "an error" and you need to reply or click a link
📧 An email offering you a tax refund — click here to accept it by e-transfer
📞 A phone call (sometimes from a number that looks official) threatening penalties or demanding payment

The CRA has specifically warned that AI is now helping scammers create much more convincing fake emails and messages — better spelling, official-looking logos, no obvious typos. The old "just look for mistakes" advice isn't enough anymore.

✅ What to do:
— The real CRA will never ask for your password, SIN, or payment over text or email
— Never click a link in a tax-related text or email — go directly to canada.ca yourself
— If you're unsure about a message, call the CRA directly: 1-800-959-8281
— Report scams to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre: 1-888-495-8501

If you think you clicked something and now your computer is acting strange — don't panic, but do bring it in. Free triage, no charge to look. We see this regularly and can check if anything got installed.

📰 Your weekly tech catch-up — 3 things that actually matter to you this week.

We read the tech news so you don't have to. Here's what happened this week and what (if anything) you should do about it:

🔵 1. WINDOWS GOT A BIG SECURITY UPDATE
Microsoft patched around 120 security holes last week. The important thing most people missed: there's a deadline coming June 26 — if your computer hasn't received a specific update by then, its security could be weakened. Open Windows Update and check now. If it gets stuck, call us.

🟢 2. GOOGLE ANNOUNCED A NEW KIND OF LAPTOP
They're calling it the Googlebook — an AI-first laptop meant to replace the Chromebook. No price or release date yet. If you have a Chromebook, Google has said existing devices will keep getting support. No need to do anything right now.

🔴 3. VIMEO HAD A DATA BREACH
The video platform Vimeo confirmed that personal information from around 119,000 accounts was exposed. If you have a Vimeo account — even one you made years ago and forgot about — it's worth changing the password, especially if you reuse that password elsewhere.

That's your week in plain English. ✅

❓ "Why is my laptop fan so loud all of a sudden?"

We hear this one all the time — and the good news is it's usually fixable without replacing anything.

Here are the three most common reasons:

🌀 1. DUST — By far the most common cause. Laptops pull air through tiny vents, and over time dust builds up inside and blocks airflow. When airflow is blocked, the fan has to work harder and spin faster to keep things cool. A proper internal cleaning usually solves it completely.

🖥️ 2. SOMETHING IS RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND — Updates downloading, a program that didn't close properly, or in some cases malware silently using your computer's power. If your fan is loud and your computer feels sluggish at the same time, this is worth checking.

⚙️ 3. THE FAN ITSELF IS WEARING OUT — Fans are mechanical parts. After several years, the bearings wear and they start making grinding or rattling sounds even at normal speeds. That's a sign the fan may need replacing before it fails completely.

The one you don't want to ignore: if the fan is screaming AND the laptop is getting very hot AND it's shutting itself off — bring it in soon. Overheating can damage other components over time.

Laptop won't turn on? Your photos and files are probably still in there — here's what most people don't know. 😰

When a laptop stops booting into Windows, it feels like everything is gone. Your photos, your documents, your kid's school project, your business records. But in most cases, the files are still sitting safely on the drive inside — they just need someone to rescue them.

Our team at Computer Wall in Stony Plain can copy everything off a laptop that won't start, without a big teardown or a big bill. We'll take a look for free first and tell you exactly what's there before any work begins. No surprises.

💸 New laptops just got a lot more expensive — here's what that means for you.

Here's something the ads won't tell you: the parts inside new computers — storage, memory — have jumped dramatically in price this year. Industry analysts tracking the market have reported price surges of over 100% on core components compared to last year, driven by AI companies buying up global supply.

What that means for you in plain English:

🖥️ New laptops cost significantly more than they did in 2024–2025
🖥️ The "budget" options have gotten worse specs, not better prices
🖥️ A repair or targeted upgrade on your current machine is now often the smarter financial call — not the compromise option

We see this play out every week. Someone comes in ready to spend $1,200+ on a new laptop, and after our $99 System Exam, we find out their current one just needs a storage or speed upgrade to feel brand new — for a fraction of that cost.

Here's our honest take:
✅ If your computer is less than 6–7 years old, there's a good chance fixing it beats buying new right now
✅ If it IS time to replace, we'll tell you that too — and help you find the right thing

We'll tell you straight — $99 System Exam, or free phone triage.
