While we're closed, we encourage everyone in the Tri-Region to head to Central Park in Spruce Grove for the We Got Your Six-KM — a run, walk, and ruck event hosted by the Alberta First Responders Association in support of first responder mental health and operational stress injury awareness.

𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝘂𝗽, 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆.

Edmonton Police are warning about scammers calling and claiming to be from Rogers, Bell or Telus. Great deal, new phone, just need to confirm a few details — and then they're asking for your banking or credit card information.

Here's the part that doesn't get said enough: they aren't only after one purchase. If they get enough of your account details, they can move your phone number onto their own SIM card. After that, every security code your bank or your email texts you goes to them.

Three things that will keep you safe:

1. Real providers don't cold-call asking for your card number or your account PIN. Ever.
2. The name on your call display can be faked. It means nothing.
3. If the offer sounds good, hang up and call the number on your actual bill. If it's real, it'll still be there in five minutes.

Please pass this along to your parents and grandparents. They're the ones being called.

We’re warning the public about an active scam where fraudsters are posing as telecom providers like Rogers, Bell, and Telus, offering “exclusive deals” and new phones. Victims are being asked for banking or credit card information and may end up responsible for fraudulent phone contracts.

If you receive one of these calls, hang up and verify the offer directly with the company using a trusted phone number or website.

Do not provide personal, banking, or credit card information to unsolicited callers.

If you have been targeted or have information, please report it to EPS using our non-emergency line 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile device within city limits or by submitting a report online at edmontonpolice.ca.
