Due to some changes to our store, we are currently no longer sponsoring players for our events. Since these players can afford to play in tournaments at other stores. You can afford to pay and play here too.
We also have canceled all future co-op opportunities for students
at both high school and college until further notice.

We are going back to being open 7 days a week as well to be more available to customers who still support and appreciate what we provided to people for the last 12+ years.

Many customers have contacted us in the last 24 hours asking for a clarification of Wizards of the Coast’s official position on Proxy Magic tournaments, and what this means for Legacy and Vintage tournaments that allow proxies.

As of January 13, 2016, WPN stores are no longer welcome to run unsanctioned Proxy Legacy or Vintage tournaments (or proxy events of any kind). Wizard’s newly clarified policy is, as expressed by Paul Hagan:

“With regard to questions on proxies, we ask that WPN locations not hold events – sanctioned or unsanctioned – allowing the use of any type of unauthorized reproductions of cards.”

A few further points were clarified by various Wizards reps, which we summarize below.

1) This does not apply to casual play, anywhere. It only disallows WPN stores from organizing events involving proxies of any sort. No one is getting suspended for “kitchen table legacy.”

2) No stores have been suspended or otherwise punished for running proxy events as of this writing. However, stores that continue running proxy events may be subject to suspensions.

3) This policy is primarily seen and expressed by Wizards as a way to dis-incentivize counterfeiting of Legacy and Vintage Magic cards, whose prices are now so high counterfeits are being produced in record numbers. Trick Jarret clarified this point on Reddit by saying “Unauthorized reproductions of our game are a type of counterfeit, and we want business partners to help us in discouraging counterfeit Magic….I know that feels crazy, that we regard marker on a card as a counterfeit, but remove the visual accuracy from the judgment – they serve identical purposes when it comes to game play.”

This policy clarification effectively ends Proxy Legacy, Vintage and Cube at any WPN store.

Wizards Play Network (WPN) rules
prohibit counterfeit and unauthorized proxy cards in all sanctioned Commander tournaments and events. In a sanctioned event, only official, authentic cards are allowed, with the sole exception being a judge-issued proxy for a card that has become damaged during that specific event. Stores must enforce this rule to maintain their WPN status; failure to do so can result in penalties, including termination of membership.
Proxies and counterfeits in WPN events

Counterfeit cards: These are strictly forbidden and lead to immediate termination of a store's WPN membership if knowingly used. WPN members who knowingly facilitate their use can also face consequences.
Unauthorized proxies: These are not allowed in any sanctioned event run through the Wizards Event Reporter (WER). This includes weekly Commander nights that are sanctioned.
Judge-issued proxies: The only exception is a proxy created by a head judge to replace a card that was damaged or excessively worn during the event itself. The original card must be kept nearby, and the proxy is only valid for the duration of that tournament.
Playtest cards: These are player-made cards for personal, non-commercial use and are not allowed in sanctioned events, though some stores may permit them in casual, unsanctioned play.

What this means for players

If a store is hosting an official, sanctioned event (like a weekly Commander night that they track for WPN metrics), they must strictly enforce the no-proxy rule.
If you are caught using an unauthorized proxy in a sanctioned event, you may face penalties, including a warning, removal from the event, or even a ban from the store.
Stores can still host unsanctioned "house rule" events where they might allow proxies, but they must clearly distinguish them from sanctioned events.
