Today was supposed to be the day. Transition is taking longer than planned, so in the meantime, I (Jeff) will be passing jobs on to Lucas (Watson Tech) ... just contact Teky and I will relay your requests for service. This Teky-limbo should only take a few days while our lawyers get the paperwork in place. At that point, I will email everyone with my "it is done" message.

For Sale: Established Small-Town IT business Where You Can Create a Work/Life Balance
Would you, or someone you know, be interested in taking over an established IT company in rural Vancouver Island? Teky.ca has been providing technology support for homes and businesses in and around the Cowichan Valley (just north of Victoria) for over 16 years. Teky.ca has an established identity, great word-of-mouth, and fabulous reputation. I'm Jeff, the owner and main technician since I started the company in 2008. I've got a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.Eng EE), and a fair bit of programming/database/IT background, but no special business background. The volume of business has been sufficient to support a few staff, and it is still busy, but I'm at the point where I would like to retire. With that goal in mind, I closed the brick-and-mortar and let my 2 staff go just over a year ago. But business still keeps beating a path to my door. I'm happy to support the right person/people during any length of transition.

I know I have asked here before, but would you, or someone you know, be interested in working in IT?
Involvement could be anything from helping out once in a while (for pay), to taking over an existing IT company.
My business is steady, but I would like to retire ... phasing myself out over the next year or so, if possible.
I'm happy to train the right person.
My clients are mainly in South Cowichan (i.e. Malahat to Duncan), and I personally handle up to 6 calls in a day: onsite, offsite (i.e. dropoff/pickup), and remote.
A driver's license and vehicle aren't imperative, but they would be helpful.
IT knowledge also isn't imperative, but a strong work ethic and desire to learn are.

Tomorrow, Microsoft is changing how you can access your Microsoft email (i.e. .com, .com, .com) from an email client software. For those of you who are affected by this, I wrote a blog post: https://teky.ca/blog/2024/09/microsoft-mail-alert/

Posted on 20240915 by Jeff WrightMicrosoft Mail Alert On 16Sep2024, Microsoft is changing how you can access your Microsoft email (reference). If you have an email address that ends in .com, .com, .ca, .com, or .ca, this may affect you. If you don’t have an email ...

If you have a PC running Windows 11 Pro that *must* be on 24x7, beware of a new default setting that puts it into Hibernation after 180 minutes. This must have come in from a Windows update (in order to save the planet). To change it back, go to "Control Panel | Edit power plan | Change advanced power settings" then under your active power plan, go to the settings under "Sleep | Sleep after" and "Sleep | Hibernate after" and adjust them to 0. If response time is not as critical, you can let the PC sleep and set it to Wake On LAN (WOL), which I can detail another time.

Are you considering the M2 iMac at $2199?
Now, I'm not suggesting Apple products here, but if you must have a Mac ...
For *less than half that price*, you can get a base-model Mac Mini and add an expansion dock, a 1TB NVMe drive, a 27-inch monitor and a wireless keyboard/mouse ... and what you get is the same CPU/GPU/RAM and operating system, but with a bigger screen, 2.5 times the storage, and a lot more ports and expandability.
I've just done that for a client of mine.
