We’re heading into a busy year ahead and looking to develop relationships with a senior designer interested in leading work across branding, web design, and everything in between.

This collaboration would begin on a contract or fractional basis, with a modest and flexible starting scope. Our hope is to grow this into a longer-term working relationship over time, with increasing continuity as fit and capacity align.

You’ll be supporting meaningful projects with researchers, community organizations, and mission-driven teams. We’re looking for someone who brings not only strong craft and good judgement, but also experience working in social impact contexts, including a solid understanding of community-centred work, equity-informed practice, and the responsibility that comes with designing for complexity.

This work is brand-led and strategic. Deep experience in the Adobe Creative Suite is essential; web design experience, particularly in Figma, is a real asset.

We’re headquartered in Saskatchewan and would love to connect with someone local, but we’re a fully remote team and welcome collaborators from across the country.

If this resonates, we’d love a human hello—no formal application needed. Send a short note to [email protected] introducing yourself, a link to your portfolio or a few relevant projects, and a sentence or two about what kind of work you’re hoping to do more of this year. To help us review responses thoughtfully, we won’t be able to consider inquiries sent via DMs. At this time, we’re looking to connect with designers based in Canada.

And if someone you trust comes to mind, please feel free to pass this along. We care deeply about the work and about how we work together, and we’re excited to build capacity in a way that’s well-aligned.

The world we’re working toward doesn’t emerge on its own. It’s shaped, intentionally or unintentionally, by the systems, stories, and tools we create.

Design influences all of it.
It supports understanding, access, and belonging.
It determines whether people can find what they need, whether research sparks action, and whether communities feel invited into the work.

𝑮𝒐𝒐𝒅 design translates complexity into clarity.
It reduces friction in already overstretched systems, and helps people navigate services, trust information, and take the next step with confidence.

When design is rooted in care, equity, and deep understanding of the people we serve, it expands what’s possible.

At Arcana, we partner with teams who are building change in real time—health researchers, community organizations, climate advocates, justice-focused nonprofits—teams who need their work to land, resonate, and move people.

If you’re exploring how story, design, or system clarity can strengthen your impact, we’d love to meet 👉 arcanacreative.ca

The strongest work comes from teams who are genuinely invested in the outcome.

At Arcana, we see ourselves as allies in good work. The work you’re doing matters to us, not just as a project but as part of the future we all have to live in. We seek to understand because we care, because we’re invested, and because social change is a shared effort—one we take seriously, and personally.

We’re proud of the humans behind what we do. Each member of our team brings care, rigour, and a deep sense of responsibility to the communities we collaborate with.

We’ve always believed in using design to support people and the planet. Earlier this year, our team made a wishlist, and near the top of it was this:

We want to work with more climate organizations.

That means:
👉 Orgs building local resilience
👉 Teams navigating crisis communications
👉 Projects working on adaptation and community care
👉 Networks building new narratives around climate justice

If you’re one of them, let’s talk. We bring story strategy, strong design systems, and digital solutions that work for real people.

Reach out if you’re working on something that needs a little traction, or a little hope. 🫶

By now, you’ve likely read the recent article, or seen the quote circulating. When David Suzuki said, “It’s too late,” that felt like a gut punch. Oof. We sat a bit with the feeling of grief, but like every moment in recent years where it feels like the world is turned upside down, we didn’t stop working. Because design still holds so much power; it can connect us, prepare us, clarify directions, and support us through all of the ups and downs, propelling us toward systems change.

What Suzuki really means isn’t “give up”, but “adapt,” "think differently." Keep building, but do it with eyes open and with an understanding that the systems failing us may not be the ones we should rely to help create the transformative change we need (spoiler: the solution is community). At Arcana, we design for the world we’re still in as a bridge to the world we want. That means creating accessible tools, strategies rooted in empathy, and systems that support people and communities now as a bridge for the future we’re working toward.

And if you're navigating the emotional weight of climate grief, we recommend our good friends at for resources and workshops. Their work reminds us that none of us are alone in this, and that stories, like communities, can hold a lot.

The right knows how to hook an audience. Do we?

Too often, progressive messaging gets lost in complexity. Facts, policies, and well-reasoned arguments are essential, but they rarely stop the scroll. The right wing understands the power of visceral, high-impact storytelling—I mean, how many Trump and Elon posts are you seeing reshared in your feed? So how do we make the good stuff just as compelling…

At Arcana, storytelling is the foundation of everything we do. Whether it’s a campaign, a website, a video, or a report, the question is always: What’s the narrative here? How does it connect? How does it compete?

✔️ We start by deeply understanding our audience. Representation is not just about visuals, but about making people feel seen and understood.
✔️ We think outside the box. A graphic medicine comic we created helped transform the complex realities of healthcare access into something emotionally engaging.
✔️ We experiment with new ways to tell stories. In Cynthia Block’s campaign, we used video storytelling that went beyond the standard political messaging, because just listing policies doesn’t cut it.

Progressive storytelling has to evolve. It has to be bold, imaginative, and deeply human. If we want to shift narratives, we need stories that connect, engage, and inspire action. And we need it more than ever.

✨ Indigenous Birth’s New Website is Live! ✨

Indigenous Birth, based in Phoenix, Arizona, is dedicated to preserving and uplifting Indigenous midwifery, birth sovereignty, and healing practices. Through advocacy, education, and community-rooted care, they work to reclaim traditional birth practices and support midwives in their sacred role.

They came to us wanting, in their words: a site that feels like ceremony—a space that is peaceful, organic, and deeply connected. We helped to clarify their many impactful projects, from the Dignity Birth Campaign to the Indigenous Birth Conference, improving user flow, content organization and supportive storytelling.

With a goal of attractive more funding, this new platform helps to tell the story of their work in a more accessible way.

Always grateful for Linh Vu and her gorgeous illustrative talent, visually weaving together their story and mission.

Now, Indigenous Birth has a digital home that honours their work and welcomes midwives, healers, and supporters into their movement.

The road to the perfect logo is paved with great ideas that don’t make the cut. Our iterative process explores balance, symbolism and story before landing on the final design.
