Just taking this opportunity to advice my clients and friends of a serious Hotmail hack currently happening!!!

Now, it's important to know that email addresses ending in: .com/ca, .com/ca, outlook.com, .com/ca are all considered part of the 'Hotmail' system.

Starting this past weekend a number of clients reported an email scam originating within the Hotmail account system..

The nature of this email was a request from a 'friend' to purchase a $250 Apple card for a relative sick with cancer!

The reason I'm taking the time to mention this one is the fact this is a very serious breach of security and may affect MANY people.

If you have a Hotmail based email account that people are reporting to have received such emails from you, please call me for help.

If you receive an email from a 'friend' with money request...DO NOT reply to it. Simply call that person on the phone..the old fashion way!! ;) Tell them you believe their account has been hacked and needs attention immediately.

For those with Hotmail based email accounts: setup 2-step authentication immediately to ensure your account cannot be hacked by whomever is doing this.

Thanks to all that donated their used laptops to go to Jamaica..
Unfortunately not all were refurbish able and many did have to be put down!! ;)
But 4 decent laptops are prepared with new drives and software and will be heading to Jamaica to help those that lost so much in during the hurricane in October/25.
My friends will be picking them up tomorrow and heading down in a about a week..

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone..
I just thought I'd take a moment to express my appreciation to everyone who has supported my business and my family over these last 25 years!! Wow..it's been that long!!

But don't worry, this isn't a goodbye and I look forward to continuing for a long time yet... ;)

This years holiday fits the calendar in an irregular manner. So I thought I'd let everyone know my working hours between the holidays.

My name is Doug McLean,

I'm starting a collection of old Windows based laptops with the intention to clean and refurbish to give to a good cause!!
The tragedy of Jamaica has hit close to home..my friend, Dorran Shaw's mother, Sharon Wedderburn's home in Jamaica was badly damaged and her community in shambles after the Hurricane a couple weeks ago..
Most people there, like Sharon have lost all their personal possessions.
Dorran and his wife Svet will be going to help but cannot until after Christmas due to personal and logistical issues of travel to the badly damaged region.
It is my intent to use this time to collect as many older, but still operational machines and preparing them for new user..
If you have a machine that is no longer useful to you, but may be to others..please feel free to bring it to me.
You donate the machine, I'll donate the parts and labour to make it useful again for someone who needs it!!
Your personal data will be properly removed from the machines before any work is done.
Also, not ALL machines are going to be good enough to send, I'll assess and refurbish those that are and properly dispose of or return the ones that aren't.

Well..it's that time again!!
Summer is here, so time to 'Go Fishin'.
So I'll be packing my gear and locking the shop for a week from July 1-July5..
No point in lookin for me, I'll on a river someplace hoping the fish are biting more than the bugs!!! ;)

25% tariffs..bah humbug!!
Up until now my computers and laptops have NOT been subject to tariffs during import.
A real relief at to be able to provide a product and service without increasing my prices in a world that is continually doing so!! I haven’t increased my pricing in over 5 years..
However today, a rude awakening as I crossed back into Canada with my latest order of laptops..
Our government has decided to slap the 25% surcharge on my refurbished computer equipment. This cost me a further $1100 I have to add on to my already pricy premium equipment costs.
Now I could go into a rank about how stupid the Canadian government is by hurting it’s own as a means to retaliate against the US move to tariff our goods entering the US..but that would be redundant and pointless.
Now, I simply cannot abandon the US company that has supplied me for nearly a ¼ century. The quality, service and the way they stand behind their goods just can’t be found on our side of the border!
Trust my I’ve looked..
I’m hoping that my customers understand that I have little choice but to put a modest increase on my computer equipment..I’m sorry but I have little choice as this increased cost of goods has pushed me to a nearly unsustainable profit margin if I don’t.
I know I’m not the only business that is suffering this way..please understand that every small business like myself is feeling this and needs your continued support for our very survival!!
We work hard to take care of our customers in ways box stores don’t..and we need you to make it possible and understand when we increase our prices, it’s so we can continue to exist and serve you and not to pad our profits like chain stores!!

Windows 11 update progress underway..
As many of you may know and your PC may have may have already notified, Windows 10 support ends October 14, 2025.
This means in some form, updating is needed for all PC users I support.
Now, that doesn’t immediately mean that your computer will cease to function or explode and you need a new one!! ;)
But simply that security updates, software development and fixes will end…and with it my ability to assist with software problems are taken away.
To get ahead of it I’ve been working hard to install Windows 11 on client systems for about 6 months now..
So there are things you may need to know:
1/ I’ve found a ‘work around’ that allow MANY of your older machines to run the NEW Windows software without major upgrades. It’s cheap, simply and easy to use!
Even if the message on your PC say it can’t..there is a way. 90% of my client PCs can accept this new software. It will extend your computer’s usable life perhaps 2-4 years before replacement is needed.
2/ Windows 11 has a very easy learning curve!
Further, the method I use to install it will keep all your software, configurations and function intact. Simply take the computer home after the update and use it as you always have.
3/ Replacements PCs…
If yours can’t update or you simply wish a new PC…whether they are laptops or tower PCs systems, I have replacement options for you. I will help to transfer your information and configurations to make it user ready for you.

So far in this game of "OH YEAH?" between our leaders, my goods are not applicable and my pricing has not change in that regard..

Windows 10 end of support is Oct 2025.
Windows 11 updating help is now at hand…
NO REASON TO PANIC!!!
Well, I might as well update everyone on the progress of Windows 11 development and what it means to you with the end of support to your current computer software pending later this year..
1st off, Microsoft WILL be continuing support for Windows 10 beyond this end date….BUUUUTTT!?!?
You will have to pay an annual fee to continue..Microsoft will aggresively promote this option!!(not my 1st choice)
2nd, while the vast majority of your computers are saying they are NOT compatible with Windows 11, most are with a work around!
I’ve found a solution that will allow me to install the new operating system onto your current computer and extend it’s life a few more years. About 90% of my systems are eligible..
For very old machines that can’t update..I have in stock a nice selection of upgradable PCs and laptops.
3rd and lastly..in my opinion, Windows 11 is now quite stable and ready for release onto home user PCs. Also the learning curve is minimal, meaning its as easy to use as Windows 10 you are already used to.
So, as you are in for your annual visit and Norton updates, I’ll inspect your computer and discuss with you your options..
Most will have their computers updated within the same day and move forward, adding several more years of use.

I just thought I'd post my holiday hours for those who may need help..
Being an unusual year with the holidays filling the mid-week, I'll be working Monday for the following two weeks then returning to the normal Tues-Fri following the holiday weeks.
I'll be in the shop and available on the days that have green stars..though I will likely close early on the Christmas eve and New Years Eve days.

Windows 11..no time like the present!!
It’s been a while since I’ve posted but I feel it’s time to discuss the Windows 11 progression for my clients..and your computer's next transition.
Now to start, Windows 10 is fully supported until October 2025, so to be clear there is no immediate need to update or upgrade your PC!!
That being said, as this is the last year, I will be discussing the next step when all of you are in for your annual PC service over the coming year because the end of Windows 10 is nearing.
For those thinking of updating or a PC upgrade presently, Windows 11 has now developed into a ‘user ready’ platform. Which is to say, I’ve personally been testing it and providing my clients with Windows 11 PCs for the last month of so.
I’ve had little or no complaints about stability or difficulties learning to use the new platform..I feel it’s time to start helping all those interested with the transition.
Once on Windows 11, updates, support and security can be ensured for the next 7 years or so..
To be clear, if your current machine states it’s NOT compatible, it isn’t the final word..MANY of your old PCs are able to have Windows 11 installed, even if the compatibility checker say it can’t!
Please feel free to contact me to arrange a time to inspect and verify if your computer is ready for the next generation software and a few more years of service..
I have newer Windows 11 laptops and desktop PCs in stock to provide as hardware upgrades to current PCs for those who’s hardware doesn’t meet standards for the new Windows.
Also, I will help with transfer and configuration of your new PC for those that need it..(extra charge)
